Putting a pause in a phonebook entry

When entering a telephone number in the phonebook is it possible to put a pause character in the dialling stream, so that additional digits can be passed to a voicemail system. The phone I have paired is a Blackberry 9700 and the pause character gets stripped out when the phonebook is uploaded to the car.

When I enter a number in the vehicle phonebook the keypad only has the numbers, *, #, and +. The Blackberry appears to use a comma as a pause key and I can't figure out how to enter it.

I have a 2009 and tried with both an iPhone and a blackberry, never with any success. I don't think there is a way although you can use the voice recognition to enter numbers but you have to talk fast or else prompts can time out.
