Car Payment / Nervous

Hi guys,

I have two issues, I was curious about. As I tried to call Infiniti customer care, but seems to be closed on Sundays.

I was pretty tight on money this month, so I wasn't able to pay my car bill until Friday night (11/5/10) which is 5 days after it's due. Could they repo me for being that late? Is there a penalty charge? I didn't see any additional charges. How long does it take to repo? Is 5 days pushing my luck?

Secondly, I just logged in again tonight to make sure my payment went through as I don't see any payments on my bank card. I looked at Payment Activity and don't see any payments in "payment activity" I see all my past payments but absolutely nothing for 11/5/10...I could have sworn it went through, and I got the confirmation, etc. I was doing it on my way out but almost 95% positive I made a payment, and it confirmed. Does the payment now show in payment activity right away?? What happens if I send another payment now? I'm scared of doing double payments...but I'm also scared my car wont be there in the morning, or it will hurt my credit.

Thanks guys.

Keep an eye out in the night cause those repo men are ninja like. lol i keed i keed

Payment will probably show up monday for sure so don't pay again. I don't think 5 day late will cause you any harm or any extremes like being repo. I vaguely remember missing a payment on my previous car one time lol. Don't sweat it, payment will show up tomorrow and nothing bad will happen just for 5 days.

Ah man, it just kinda sucks because I try to stay organized and on top of everything, but got a little over extended this month with some medical bills, that I had to wait a few extra days to make my payment. Does anyone have experience with repos? I know 5-10 days or whatever isn't a big deal, but I was browsing online and saw someone says some companies will repo if even 1 day late? Then I saw some people say 3 months...etc. Obviously this is an ongoing issue, but just sorta nervous that I read that.

Also will this report on my credit for being late, and will I get charged additional fees?

its 3 months after you don't pay! Don't worry, and they don't report it to the credit bureaus until you're pass 30 days late.

Stay on top of it though! Keep that credit clean.

you do have 10 days grace period if you want to call and tell them the issue. sorry it's Infiniti Financial, not TD bank -- they're closed Saturday and Sunday

I know you work for Infiniti but AFAIK NY State law requires a 15 day grace period.

It would take 3 months before repo. They do charge a late fee though, typically around $30.

I just logged in again and went to "Payment Activity" and don't see the payment made on 11/5/10...I also don't see any transaction/debit on my checking account. Should I wait another day?

like da mayor said, it's not even considered late on your credit report. most banks and finance companies give a 10-15 day grace period before a payment is marked as late.

stuff paid on friday doesn't show up until a full business day after the weekend.

gotta be care with big ticket item purchases especially if you have to "budget" for it. When things come up all of a sudden, that's like 600 bucks you'll never see over the next 5 years. that's why a car payment shouldn't be any more than 20% of your month take home. if it's higher you can't technically afford the car... you can pay for it, but you may come across a time where something is gonna use up your paycheck.

but yeah like everyone has said there's a grace period. If you're in good standing, Infiniti will add the payment to the following month...

They won't repo your car... the bank doesn't want it unless you're absurdly truant. but yeah if they seize your car they won't get their money back.

Hmm based on your recommendations for car payments I guess I'm right around where I should be. Car payment is $400/month lease, and take home is about $2200...

wrong brad btw jewbag..this one is out of state. i think 15 day grace is for credit card companies, not for financial loans.
but i know it's a 10-day grace before they report you have a late payment and charge you a fee.

best bet.... call them 1-800-627-4437 make sure they applied it. usually takes 3-5 business days to post onto your account
