New 2011 G37x - first impressions
Hi all. So 5 days ago I traded in my beloved 2007 G35x for a new 2011 G37x with Premium and Nav to replace it.
So I figured I'd share my experience with anyone looking to upgrade.
Ride:
Slightly less "sporty". A little more comfortable on long trips otherwise same.
Car does not feel any quicker. In fact it seems a bit slower in "D" mode due to 7at's downshift "thinking time". About same but no quicker in "DS" mode.
Pronounced tire noise at 65+ - could be because tires are brand new, it seems to have gotten a bit quieter in the last two days of driving.
A bit less engine noise.
Fuel economy:
Big difference - about 15%-20% better. BUT not enough to justify an upgrade in itself.
Exterior:
Slightly different front, otherwise the same. Same crappy soft paint.
Interior:
Lower quality leather on seats. Can't tell if steering wheel is leather wrapped or just some kind of softer plastic. Old one felt much better.
Same layout as before.
Overall 2007-2008 interior felt softer, smoother and a little more luxurious.
Gadgetry:
No compass in the self-dimming mirror - old one had it.
Much better quality display and better resolution.
Much crisper instrument dash, white color scheme is better than before.
Slower Nav. response to touch commands.
Slower response to other screen functions.
Much better/smarter Nav. routing.
Old screen menu navigation and arrangement was brain-dead, new one is even worse.
USB Flash/ mp3 music menu arrangement and functions are very user-unfriendly and now even worse than before - whoever designed this must have been brain-dead. Sorry to say it but Lexus, GM and Ford got this particular one right. Infiniti - Nice hardware but idiotic software.
When canceling a route in Nav It shouldn't display "pausing a route" message box for 5 seconds before allowing you to do anything.
Stupid design for the compartment and cup holder cover in the center console. WTF were they thinking? The old ones worked better
Rear view cam - nice, but not much more than a conversation piece.
Conclusion:
If you like your 2007-2008, then hold on to it a while longer because 2009+ is not any better except for the fuel economy. No need to spend the extra $$.

You really should add Black Betty's grounding wires, they really make a difference. Infiniti really needs to contact him to order his grounding kits...

I will be offering an oil product soon, whereupon it, if rubbed on the tire sidewalls will decrease tire weight by 15% and rolling resistance by 99% and thus increase vehicle acceleration from 0 to 60 by 14% (measurable in colder weather at approx -70 degrees F).

Excellent point: in my 2010 G37x, with Nav & Premium packages, no Compass in the mirror. What idiot did that ! Not that I don't know what direction I'm going {to and from work everyday], but in a different environment, you need to bring up the Nav system to read a compass or act like a Boy Scout and use the sun' position in the sky....like the old days when there was no compasses in cars.
To the member who posted: "I wish I had NAV".....I didn't have it my 07 G, and I don't really use it for everyday driving at all.... My TOM TOM was fine and now the new Garmins have bigger screens, and other features that the NAV system in the G does NOT have. The Nav package does include other tech advances - bigger Music boxes, and features that allow voice recognition, But here again, i find that through the Bluetooth, too many options which requires too many pushes of the button and scrolling through too many menus. To make a simple phone call using the Bluetooth is a PIA.... Unless you use the cell phone itself to initiate the call.

iggs1: great car revew and report. You are right On !! I traded my 07 G35X - well actually, the lease was up, for a new 2010 G37X in June.. Your review is Precise about the performance, the "wonderful" 7 AT, and the mpg gains.
I'm still kicking myself for NOT buying my 07 with 25k miles on the clock for $20,000. What a mistake !!!
