Very Strange....
Hey Guys,
I have a 2009 G37xs and last week I brought it into the dealership for a battery draw so they gave me a loaner car for the week which was a 2009 G37x. Well here's where I think it gets strange and want to know what you guys think, I drove the loaner car for 4 days in the very same manner I drive my car (same amount of highway/city mileage) and noticed it got 5 gallons per mile better gas mileage then my car, it was getting 20 miles per gallon while my car gets a consistent 15 miles per gallon. On the opposite side of things the loaner car did not seem as strong as my car, in fact the exhaust sounds so much better in my car. So same engine, both an x but a 5 mile difference in gas mileage, how bizarre is this? You think the dealer "dumbs" down their loaner cars?????

the average mpg displayed is the average of the life of the car. if the loaner was previously used mostly on highway (more than you), then the average mpg will be higher. if you reset it and drove it during those 4 days, the average mpg will mirror more closely to what you were getting in your car.

Sniper I actually reset the mpg right when I jumped in the car because I was curious, now I'm wishing I never had!

hmm...maybe you had to drive longer than 4 days to get close to what you were averaging. not sure. i know when I got a 09 loaner, it's average was 24. my 2010 was getting about 20. but i figured it was due to the fact that the loaner had about 12k miles and i only had 1000 miles on the car.

There may be some truth to "not driving it long enough".
My lifetime average either by calculating manually or following the computer is in the 21-22mpg range (3.5HR) -- over the course of 42,000 miles.
The couple of times i reset the computer, it started reading higher than normal -- as high as 26mpg. But, as the miles started racking up again it got more accurate.
