A bit OT: Anybody drive a G25 yet?
#3
I test drove it on Friday, and picked it up on Saturday, a G25 Journey, moonroof, BlueSlate and stone interior. A 2010 G37 Journey with premium package would have been only a little more coin, so why did I go with a G25?
Test drove a used G37 a few weeks ago. I just didn't feel the 300+ hp, the car felt fast but it didn't feel quick. It seemed like I had to really step on the gas to get the car moving, it was almost like something was holding it back. Probably over-expectations on my part, it was the first time I ever drove a 300hp car. I was comparing it to a '99 BMW 323i AT with around 180hp.
When I drove the G25, it felt lighter and more responsive to the pedal than the G37. The 218hp engine seems like it generates plenty of power for the car, and coupled with the 7sp AT, there's no comparison to my old ride. The noise from the engine compartment was a little more refined than the G37, while it still rumbles, my perception was that it was a little quieter.
There aren't as many options with they G25. It only comes in 4 or 5 colors, navigation and sport aren't an option. Basically the only option you have with the G25 Journey is to add a moonroof. You can see the options on 2011 Infiniti G Sedan Pricing and Information, and it looks like infinitiusa.com was also finally updated today with the G25 info.
In another post someone asked if it has DS, the answer is yes. I haven't really used it yet, though, just kept the car in automatic and let it go.
The infinitiusa.com website actually lists only the following differences between the G25 and G37 as
So, if you put them side by side, I think they will look almost identical. From reading other posts, the G25 also makes the same start-up sounds as the G37.
To be honest, prior to buying the G25 I had been to the dealer about 4 times looking at the G37. It is an outstanding car, and the only thing that kept me from pulling the trigger was the 300+ hp. For how I drive and where I drive the G25 was a much better choice.

Thats strange the comment about quick versus fast. I know what you mean, but you'd figure that all things being equal except the engines, which to be frank there is a huge power difference, the 37 would be remarkably quicker and faster. The weight has got to be close on both models, engine aside?

Congrat's on the new G25! The car is no less impressive for the average moderate driver. Why waste a good 328HP engine if it's not going to be pushed to its full capabilities? It would actually be just fine for my wife...I could secretly drop that 218HP engine in our G and she probably wouldn't notice the difference. As for me, I'm just counting the miles to the end of the 1200 mile break-in period so I can push that tach past 4,000!
I think it's great that Infiniti is offering this option. I can't help but wonder if the G25 isn't just a first step to creating a more fuel efficient vehicle (possible hybrid) in the event fuel prices really spike again? It would be tough to adapt the G37 to being extremely fuel efficient, but the G25 would be perfectly poised to move in that direction.

Thanks to another poster about the weight, I was curious about that. Looks like the difference is probably 100 pounds between the G37 and G25, which shouldn't make much of a difference.
Once I get some miles on the G25 I'll post some mpg figures. Right now in about 50/50 highway to city it is showing 23mpg, but if it's as accurate as the outside temperature gauge, that could be anywhere from 15 to 40...

Congrats on the new ride & welcome to the forums.
This thread must've been sprayed with flame retardant.....Is there a G25 section to the forums yet?

When somebody develops a nice turbo kit for the G25, I bet we'll see some really nice numbers - maybe a bump up close to 300 hp and probably gobs of torque - and it'll probably still weigh less. There's a lot of good boost potential in that engine I bet. Instead of hybrid, my money is on an eventual super-high tech boosted 4 or small six for the G37.

Infinitis New Hybrid system is looking VERY promising. Theres an article posted over at FA.com claiming the M35h gets 32 MPG...........Combined(compared to 23 combined in the GS Hybrid). And does 0-60 in less than 5.9 Secs. Thats pretty impressive. I would imagine a lighter G25h could do 0-60 at around 6 secs and get high 30's combined. And the fact that the systems uses the 7-speed will take way some of the "Hybridiness."
