A year is wishfull thinking. The first week of having the car, I parked... folded my side mirror... pulled out the bumper bully and went to a store. I was there for only 5 min, and when I return, there's a dent the size of a golf ball on top of my trunk
I know you're just being careful, but I think the folded mirrors and bumper bully are as good as writing "kick me" on the side of the car. People see that, know the owner is paranoid, and damage the vehicle. I'm not defending it - just stating what I've seen, time and time again.
The same line of thinking goes for parking in the middle of nowhere, and coming out to find your car surrounded by POS rustbuckets with 1' of clearance on each side.
