So which is the best oil?

Can any of the forum friendly post a link to the "oil" thread,as I'm having trouble locating it on this site.

Going for an oil change (18K) soon, and would appreciate your opinion on the latest consensus of best oil for the G. (I know its an ongoing discussion, but just want to know what everyone is using)

Is Mobil 1 considered the best choice in synthetic,as the dealer pushes esthers, but offers Mobil as their other choice.(living in Canada)

Also, which other services do you recommend at 18K,to prevent dealer gauging?

I just made an oil change using Redline. Can't go wrong with that.

I have seen excellent Used Oil Analysis in the G37 from:

Eneos 5W-30
Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30
Castrol Syntec 5W-30

Your oil filter is probably just as important as your oil. Purolator PureOne is an excellent filter.

If you change your oil every 3750 like the manual says, most any name brand 30 weight oil will be fine. If you want to run your oil significantly longer, I suggest you get a used oil analysis done as proof that your engine agrees with your chosen oil at that oil change interval.

Caveat: I would stay away from Nissan Ester oil. It's overpriced and has had some horrible wear results in Used Oil Analysis.

Thanks for the advice.I'm currently using Penzoil Platinum, and it has 6000k (about 3800miles) on it.Its looking a little dirty, but it is still full, hasn't dropped a bit.

I do get start up noise from the valve train,it lasts about 20 seconds then disappears.
Anyone out there eliminate the noise WITHOUT switching to the Nissan ester oil?

There's the blackstone analysis thread:
https://www.myg37.com/forums/engine-...s-reports.html

The Definitive oil thread:
https://www.myg37.com/forums/general...il-thread.html

And you can find a bunch of others if you search for "Ester oil" or "Pennzoil" or "Eneos" or "Mobil One" or whatever, especially look in the "General Tech" forums and the "Engine, Drivetrain and Forced Induction" forums.

Hope that helps!

Some others have experienced some clatter upon starting like that, but I'm not sure if that's the same valve train noise -- some have found it attributed to the exhaust. There's supposedly a TSB to eliminate the actual VVEL ticking noise also.

I've never had it, used Nissan ester and Eneos oil.
