Experience at dealership trying to pick up my G37XS.. Need opinions...
Ok, I just wanted to get some opinions from the people on here and see if they think this is acceptable for a dealership.
I just returned home (WITH OUT MY NEW INFINITI G37XS) from the dealership. I was planning on taking delivery of my 2010 infiniti G37XS, but had a few "issues"...
1. I financed through USAA, got a good rate and a good loan. The dealership was fully aware that I was financing through USAA. USAA instructed me to print out the dealer instructions and a check off of their web site and bring it to the dealer and have them fill out the loan amount and that would be it. So I show up to the dealership and they tell me that they can't process the transaction this way because it would involve an ACH transaction and they will not allow anyone access to their account numbers and roughing numbers and I will need an actual check filled out with the exact number for the purchase price mailed to them. This will have to be mailed out overnight via FedEx tomorrow... Does this sound right???? Should have SOMEBODY at the dealership told me this???? They told me that they had dealt with USAA before...
2. So now the check is going to go out tomorrow overnight via FedEx to the dealer and will arrive on Thursday. The F&I manager proceeds to tell me that it's my sales rep and her day off on thursday and I can't pick up my car thursday because they are off and will have to wait until friday.... I responded with "so what, you don't sell cars on thursdays?????" and she kinda just shrugged her shoulders and said they only get one day off a week....
3. I had them find the car I wanted and I'm not sure where they got it from. I know they didn't have it on their lot. so the car they had waiting for me had 82 miles on it. Am i out of line for thinking that's kinda a high number???
Am I over reacting????

1) yeah, one would think they'd be familiar with how that works enough to have been able to figure it out.
2) That's really kind of dumb. Sales guy I used told me his days off, but said that if for some reason I HAD to do one of those days, he'd talk to his manager and they'd get it figured out.
3) Not knowing where the car came from, 82 is not unusual. Even if they trucked it in, it could have been test driven a number of times at the original site. It's not high enough that I'd be concerned with it being a dealer demo model (I bought my '07 G35S which was a demo model, first one on the lot, and that had 250 miles on it).
Or, if it was on some other dealer lot, they probably drove it over. I used to hate the idea of buying a new car that other people may have driven, but if a few dozen miles short of crash derby miles makes a difference on the longevity of your vehicle then I think there's a good chance there's going to be something wrong with the car no matter what the original mileage was.

They make money off of financing. The minute you told them you brought your own, they started hoping they'd get a better offer.
Why would you give them your business after they made it clear that they don't want it?

They should have told you details about your USAA transaction and that there was restrictions regarding their banking info being handled that way.
Most car transactions are never as easy as they should be and I think I've only had about 5 out of 20 that have gone without some kind of "hiccup".
The only item in your post that's unaaceptable IMO is not being able to complete the transaction because your salesperson has the day off. I'd demand that the sale be completed at your convenience, surely if they want the sale someone else can get it completed.
82 miles on the car isn't a big deal IMO, Our 09 had more than that, just be sure to take it for a nice drive and look it over closely for any sign of paint chips or anything else that may be due to being out on the road.
Hope it all works out OK in the end, and I would NOT change my schedule to accomodate the dealer unless it just happens to be the only car of its' kind within a reasonable drive (and a good deal to boot!)

I agree with the posts about the USAA check. Actually, this is a great thing for other folks to learn from. Nothing like being super excited to pick up your brand new car and walking into the dealership on the last day of the month with that blank check and thinking you'll walk out with a new car. Can't say I blame the dealer for wanting an actual bank check - I'm sure they've been burned by some idiot who figured out how to game that system. If you told them upfront about the USAA check though, they should have confirmed the process with you. Any time I have any questions about financing, payment, etc. I ask them to confirm with the F&I manager just to be sure.
Regarding the mileage . . . well, I wouldn't get too worked up about that. Like others have said - maybe they drove it from the other dealership. It's much cheaper than trucking it for them. There are plenty of things to be pissed about here but you can't turn back the mileage so you can either accept it and never look back or wait for them to find another version of the car with fewer miles (and likely, they'll end up driving it from another dealership anyway so those miles will probably end up back on the odometer. OR they'll truck it and charge you for that). Either way, as I said, if you accept the car with the mileage just live your life! Don't worry every minute what might have happened to the car on those few miles. Water under the bridge! Focus on the things you can change not the things you can't. If you can't get over it - get a different car.
Regarding the salesperson's day off. . . well, the dealership should absolutely be willing to work with you on this! The F&I person probably doesn't want to do the delivery that day because they pawn a lot of the work onto the sales people these days. A lot of the clerical work, etc. If your sales person isn't there then he/she will be stuck doing more work. However, if another sales person does the delivery then they may split the commission with your original sales person.
These guys are on commission and, although it's easy to villify sales people, they do have a right to earn a living. If you can work your schedule around theirs without a huge hassle - that just shows consideration for him/her as a PERSON not a sales person. If you can't, then they should adjust to your schedule. Either way, the dealer should give you the option.
Just sounds like poor communication and customer service with this dealership. That always concerns me when they drop the communication ball like this when they are trying to earn your business . . . what happens when you already have the car and need something later?!?
So in summary:
Check - stupid miscommunication but thanks for sharing for others to learn! Don't let it frustrate you too much. Enjoy the car!
Mileage - Don't let it frustrate you too much. Enjoy the car!
Delivery Day - If you don't have a choice for your day off - tell them and demand that day. If you have a bit of flexibility, see if you can make it work. win-win. Either way, it's one day out of a loooooong ownership experience that you are sure to enjoy!
Good luck and try not to get too frustrated!!

In my area, Infiniti is offering 0% financing for up to 36 months. Are you sure that you don't want to go that route instead?
82 miles does sound a bit high. They may have driven the car from another dealership. Or maybe the car was used for a few test drives by other prospective customers?

To be honest this sounds like a complete run around to me. I would find a different dealership.
1. The bit about the USAA check is bogus. They should be able to process it with USAA with absolutely no delays. I agree with 15951^^^ they are just trying to make money off the financing.
2. It shouldn't matter if your particular saleman is there, as long as everything has been finalized (price/options/etc). The financing manager should be able to take it from there, and they know who sold you the car.
3. That does seem a bit high, and if it were the ONLY thing, then I wouldn't worry, but in conjunction with the rest of the things that happened, I would walk out the door and find another dealership.
Nothing blatent has happened as of yet (other than the USAA check, that is completely wrong) but all of this together just doesn't seem right and I don't think it would be wise to deal with them.

This has been a long process to say the least with my dealership. To date my sale rep has been GREAT. I was about a half hour late last night when I went to pick up my car and my sales rep was with another appointment he had set. So he handed me off to the F&I manager and she was the one with the attitude saying I couldn't pick my car up that thursday. I'm going to call my sales rep in a few hours when the he get's in and see if I can smooth things over with him. Like I said, He's been GREAT, so I'm hoping he can get a better solution for the delivery of the car.
I guess the milage on the car isn't too bad... I hope it's from them driving it from another dealership and not 7-8 test drives with people beating on the car...
And yes, I hope this will be good info and a good learning experience for people going through the buying/financing process. Make sure you have your ducks in a row and COMMUNICATE with the dealer

^that's good the salesman is working with you. On the other hand it's total BS that the FI manager won't work with you.
If you are going through USAA you also should have gotten a large discount on the price of the car ($2500 or so)...did they give that to you as well? They are supposed to do it no questions asked if you are working through USAA

rohardi - sorry to hear this. That is true about the F&I lady at Inskip. She really is the only one there. If my memory serves me correctly, I had to delay my delivery because of the same issue.
82 miles isn't bad. I think most dealerships in our area have a similar program like Inskip does. They have "demo" vehicles set aside specifically for test drives, that way every car on the lot isn't test drove. So I think you're getting a car that has only been driven off the boat, and then to Inskip.
You *could* get aggressive and tell them the deals off. My guess is your car is coming Kelly Infiniti in Danvers, MA based on mileage, and the fact they have several blue slate g37xs's in stock. So you could just go there. I've done that myself before (not with Infiniti tho).
Or, you wait till Friday and you'll appreciate it all the more....
Best of luck.
For the users who suggested he go elsewhere, we live in RI. There's only 1 Infiniti dealership in RI. Our other options are to head to Boston and surrounding subburbs and haggle there. That's just not worth the trouble and the drive for me, especially when Inskip (dealership in question) otherwise has a pretty decent reputation.

Yes, I got the discount with out haggling. I just showed them what other USAA participating dealers could do for me and they gladly matched it with no questions.

If a car is so sensitive that a few dozen miles of hard test-driving on it is going to have a serious impact, then it's probably likely to have problems whether or not those miles are on it to begin with (no matter how those miles were put on).

I think people really need to get less hung up about this.

Yeah, I prefer my new car to have as few miles on it as possible. I realize the odds are good that a car with some miles on it is still as good as new, but then again strange things can happen when a car is test driven. Abuse is just one of them....like someone testing the speed by going wide open throttle and redlining the engine as he bangs the hell out of the gears. But simple things can also happen, such as someone smacking a pothole hard enough to knock the front end out of alignment, but not enough to know it until a few thousand miles later when the front tires are wearing abnormally. So yeah, I'd rather buy a car that has very few miles on it under most circumstances, but that's just me.
