"Miles till empty - *****" ?

The center panel warning display shows I have 17 miles left, the one on the big lcd shows '*****'. Is this a known defect?

Defect? Or intentional?

Mine does that too. When the warning comes on the dash, the Miles To Empty on the Nav computer goes to *******.

By the way, it's really "Miles to 2 Gallons Left." Further, once it gets under 35 miles to go, it drops like a rock to zero. Drops much faster than 35 miles.

I don't know why the system would show '****' when it knows the exact figure. In other cars I've had the display counts down to 0 at a fairly predictable rate. Its not very useful if it 'drops like a rock' !

I think it's a bug with the software, it happens in my car too.

its not a bug...its an estimate. neither number is exactly correct so don't get hung up on that number being exactly right. you should be filling up before getting to **** anyways

It is a bug because when the NAV screen shows ****** the Amber LCD between the gauges shows the actual MTE.

That's what I am saying...the miles on the LCD screen is NOT actual MTE. It is an estimate. The nav screen changes to **** at different times on different tanks. Both of those numbers are estimates and get more and more inaccurate the closer to E you get.

Gas consumption is not a constant function over time. It depends on many factors such as traffic (stop and go?), speed, uphill, downhill, etc, etc. None of the factors are constant, therefore it is impossible to have an accurate MTE. The best you could do is to calculate an estimate. Therefore, MTE is an estimate, NOT actual. Your G is being very honest in that regard.

I would pay to have the nav voice say that in the Dave Chappell voice. I would pay even more to have it say "Hold my drink, b***h" every time I put something in the cup holder.

Yeah, we've had this discussion about 1000 times, but it seems at least in my car and to many others who have carefully examined this, the DTE is set for an 18 gallon tank when we really have a 20 gallon tank. I run it to nearly 0 almost every time and there are always at least 18 gallons left. It's just a reserve or whatever.

Even if it's set for "empty" at 2 gallons, I don't think it's really 100% accurate on either screen. Especially because it changes pretty quickly depending on how hard I'm pressing the gas pedal at the moment.

It reminds me of the windows "copy file" dialog. "2 minutes remaining.....10 minutes remaining...56 seconds remaining."
