I notice the roughness myself in the car. I cant compare it to a lot of other cars, but i can feel a roughness there. In normal Auto mode, it can be especially rough. Now, when i put it in DS and drive spiritedly, then it is a lot of fun, and that is what counts. Driving in M mode also feels rough. It to get a smooth shift in the lower gears (up to fourth). Once there it starts to feel great once again.

I do notice the G37 sounds a lot more "growl-ly" than my 2006 G35.

I suspect they will add DI as a next step to improve the engine. They're just waiting for the horsepower race to catch up to us a bit before doing that.

it all sounds like a symphony too me. music to my ears. i noticed infiniti kind of advertises it as such. it seems like they really emphasize the engine note in this commercial.

Some people are confusing sound with NVH (noise vibration harshness)

The G37 engine is borderline coarse at higher RPMs but it sounds meaner than other V6 engines. V6 engines are less balanced than inline 6 engines, and the displacement increase of the VQ engine made it harsher over the years.

The Auto transmission quells the vibrations better than the 6MT models.

2010 G37xS here ... coming out of 2008 G35xS ... three V6 Accords before that ...

I think the 3.7 is actually smoother than the 3.5, maybe in part to the longer stroke compared to the 3.5. Sure maybe the VQ is not as smooth as the Honda V6s, but I definitely don't think it's harsh (referring to NVH). At high rpms, I think it's smooth and sounds amazing. I love it.

Having owned both a 335 and G37, I can tell you the G is much rougher and not as trouqey. That's not to say it's not a fun engine, but it does pale in comparison to the BMW 3.0 inline turbo, which is not only more powerful, but smoother and more fuel efficient, and it sounds great. Of course, it also breaks down every month which is why I know have a G.

And Costs a lot more $$$$$. The G is still the best bang for the BUCK !!! Only problem: There are too many of them on the road now. Starting to feel too common, like the car my secretary would drive...
