Trunk lid opened by itself?

I was out in my garage today and noticed that the trunk lid on my '09 Journey was open. It appeared similar to when you open with the fob or from inside...it was just barely open, not all the way up. I had driven the car a few days prior, and did not use the trunk on that occasion, and I know that I did not open it since I parked it. I doubt that I could have accidently opened with the fob, since you need to press the button for a few seconds. I do not know how this happened....any ideas?

I would just say you probably hit the button on the fob, but if you are certain that didn't happen then I'm not sure what could have happened

Even though you think it unlikely, the most likely answer is that you somehow opened it inadvertently with the fob, maybe while in your pocket. I've done that t time or two.

I can't recall anyone reporting that the trunk just opened on its own so far. You'd be the first.

Maybe your Trunk Monkey wanted to go out for a stroll?

I’ve done that a few times too. It’s easy enough to do with the fob in a side pocket as you press against a piece of furniture or something in the house. Of course you get instant notification from the LCD as soon as you start the car.

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep an eye on it for awhile, and make sure the monkey has plenty of bananas.

I've tired putting bananas in there, it doesn help. They need to find victims to fling their poo on. And they also prowl around for some "monkey love" while they're out, if you know what I mean.

He'll come back.

Like others have said, you must have inadvertently pressed the key fob inside your pocket. I did that a few times with the panic button. In those cases I knew right away because it set off the horn. For the trunk lid, it is almost silent, so you may not have realized.

It happened to me twice in 2 weeks. Now I have a Grubb's rubber type jacket over each of my smart keys. This makes it a lot more difficult to accidentally press one of the buttons while the key is in my pocket.

I found the keyfob is pretty sensitive to "pocket dialing." One time I came out to the garage to find my front windows both rolled halfway down in the middle of winter. This was quite baffling since I didn't know that this could be done with the keyfob. I was driving to work thinking, "well, nothing's missing from the car, still a full tank of gas and 5 miles on the trip meter. Did someone break into the car just to roll the windows down?"

Anyway a quick Internet search turned up an answer later. But I seem to have a knack for accidentally opening the trunk on occasion with that thing in tight pockets as well. And sometimes I set off the damn panic button while getting out of the car.

I've managed to open my windows a number of times like this, as well as setting off the panic alarm once and the trunk once.
