Way back when cars used drum brakes, drivers would often use the gearbox and engine braking to slow their cars down. But that doesn't make much sense with modern cars like your G. Why? Brake pads and rotors are considerable cheaper as wear items that the very expensive seven-speed gearbox in your Infiniti. All mechanical items have a limited lifespan--don't wear out your drivetrain prematurely by this practice!

I agree. I think for people running into other cars while braking is b/c they either follow too close or they don't apply the brakes soon enough. B/c the G likes to rev engine (engine braking) w/ abrupt braking, those people like to think that the car causes the accident instead.

Yes Marc, I loved the car and would've bought another one if they hadn't stopped making the 6 cylinder. It was a VW Passat 4motion...a real driving car without the oomph we get with the G. Now I have a bit of both and love it.

As others said this is normal. Also related, if you put the tranny into DS mode before exiting a highway I love the way the engine downshifts with only minor braking prior to the exit ramp curve putting you in a well balanced throttle position to exit the curve.

I haven't been using the DS mode but I will try. Perhaps the feel will be more to my liking. Do ppl actually drive in DS all the time?

Great thread. I noticed this when I got my 2010...IMHO it's a great feature. I understood it right away...Much Like REV Matching Infiniti has been doing for years with the Autos and now manuals....I feel people are just looking to pass the buck if they jamming into others...it's not your ECU or the 60 Minute Audi Ghosts either.

Unhappy Unsafe rise in RPMs when braking to a stop

My car is a 2012 G37s coupe.
My problem occurs when I am coming to a stop.
My foot is off the accelerator and I am starting to use the brake.
As the car begins to slow, I see the RPMs begin to lower.
When the RPMs drop to about 1100 rpm and my foot is still depressing the brake, I can feel the brake pedal get soft/mushy and the RPMs rise quickly to over 3000 rpms.
As I am approaching to the back of the car in front of me, I learned to quickly put the car in neutral to prevent a crash. The RPMs quickly drop to normal idle rpm value of about 750 rpms.
On a couple of occasions, I am putting my car in the garage. I slowly accelerate and the brake easily and the problem happens. I have come within inches going through the wall.
I cannot make the problem to occur at will. Long driving or short trips or car temp does not appear to cause the problem.
I am thinking a sensor may be faulty, but I am having the dealer's expert check it out.
Is anyone aware of any software updates concerning or of any sensor(s) that could cause this problem?
