can someone explain to me how tint laws work... its something i havent been able to quite figure out.
NY Law states that both front and rear side windows "Must allow more than 70% of light in".
now, as i understand it, the % given for a tint film is the amount of light transmission, not light blocking, right? so 35% tints allow only 35% of the light thru, and block 65%, or is it 35% blocked and 65% let in? so basically any tint other than factory is illegal in NY...
i have 35% tints on my parents' altima, and my mom caught a ticket for tints. (car used to be mine, they took over my payments when their lease ended and i didnt need it, hence it having tints on it).

Factory tint is usually 70% on the windshield which all state laws allow. Here is the law for New York:
New York Tint Law
The 6 inches on top allowed on your windshield is a bit confusing. But I would interpret it to mean no additional tint at all below those 6 inches, as most states allow no more than the OEM 70% tint there which you already have.

^ perfect thanks for the explanation. it kept twisting in my head that 35% tints are "legal" since they allow 65% of the light in. obviously that was wrong of me, and i have 4 tickets to show for it

MY car didn't have OEM film...it had OEM tinted glass... read built in tint of 74%
What I have been told is if you really want tinted glass then go to a glass shop and have them make you new windows that are the tint level you want. Then it is not a film, considered from the factory, and the police aren't supposed to be able to do anything about it. I'm not testing that theory though And it really isn;t that expensive to copy the glass in the car. I've done it for some of the custom cars I've built (including my GTM which is for sale by the way)

Just wondering, because it had been so long since I last tinted my car. Its been a couple weeks and there are a lot of tiny bubbles in the tint. I know they are normal for a little while and are supposed to go away, but how long do they take? There are quite a few of them and I never remember having so many. I'll give it another 2 weeks before calling the shop (which will be a month). That seem normal to everyone?

I don't know what everyone else's experience has been, but my last 3 cars have all been tinted and I've had very few bubbles. To me, that sounds like a poor install. Two weeks should probably be enough time assuming your car has spent some time sitting in the sun.

Mine was tinted 2 days ago and there are no bubbles in the tint. You could see some moisture ,like a foggy look in places.
It went away the next day. I have been leaving mine out in the Florida sun to make sure it completely dries between the tint and glass. Today is the 3rd day and I can't see any sign of moisture left.
