Intelligent Key Locked in Trunk

I know it's not supposed to happen but it did ('09 G37). Loaded my golf bag in the trunk, changed my shoes and closed the trunk lid. The trunk shut (no beep, no automatic re-open, etc).

Left standing in the dark locked out of my G37. Luckily I had my cell phone.

My '06 would automatically pop the trunk open if the key was put in the trunk.

Anyone experienced this? Causes? Fixes?

Strange... I'll have to do some testing with mine. When I'm home and have both my keys.

I did the same thing one day and the trunk poped open, i was like oh, what a cool feature. Then i went home to show my brother and when i closed the key in the trunk that time it did not work. Sometimes it does, sometimes it does not. Very weird.

technically it should pop open right away.

However I noticed a little glitch, if the car is unlocked and you throw the key in the trunk, the trunk WONT open. very weird

nah the fob has to be within an arc of either door (or the front doors if you have a sedan) that stretches out like 24" in any direction

Check your fob's batteries? Maybe it's on the verge of dying, and it died in your trunk.

Why would that be a glitch? If the car is unlocked then you can open the trunk via the switch inside the car -- Sounds like a good design to me.

i know it worked on my 06, havent tried it on my 08.

Maybe it just didnt detect the key inside the trunk, it couldve been too far in or interference from the golf clubs and such.

You shouldve unlocked the doors first

What we learned today kids:
Keep you keys in your pocket at all times, no need to pull it out haha
And my trunk wouldn't shut either, when I was installing my amp I accidentally left it in and shut the trunk, so i bounced back up and in the front I could see a message that said key in trunk or something along those lines.

Where was your key? The golf bag? Could it be that the signal of the fob got blocked?

On my 09, I can not lock or unlock doors with key in trunk, but the trunk will shut. There must be a setting somewhere to change that.
