Intelligent Key Locked in Trunk
#17
Sorry man, after I read that, I was cracking up. Sounds like something that would happen to me. I always end up doing something stupid like that.

Left my keys in my jeans which were in my sport bag, placed them in the truck and tried to close the truck. No dice, car beeps and trunk pops open. I had no idea what was going on. Tried to close it once more with the same result. I'm thinking what the hell. Go to open my door and discovered the door would'nt open. I was then that I figured out what was going on, that my keys were in the trunk. Thought wow that is a cool feature.

I'm glad this thread popped up. A while back my wife locked the fob in the trunk of our '09. I was pissed, because that's NOT supposed to happen. Just last week, I saw the low battery light in the dash, for the fob, so I replaced the battery. I was curious to see what would happen, so I dropped it in the trunk, and closed the lid. No beep, and it stayed shut. BS!!! This was actually a safety feature that I really was looking forward to having, for my wife and baby. But there must be something faulty with the new cars, judging by the number of people who have the same problem. My Mother's '06 has no such problem, and belches the moment you try and lock the fob in the trunk.

Interesting thread. I thought that I would check the behavior of the key fob with my G37x. With the car doors locked, putting the key fob in the trunk and closing the trunk; the trunk will automatically pop open and an alarm sounds. With the car door or doors unlocked, putting the key fob in the trunk and closing the trunk; the trunk states closed and no alarm sounds. This behavior is as others have described and I would consider this behavior to be normal.
To retrieve the key fob locked in the trunk with the car door unlocked: go into the vehicle and open the trunk by using the trunk switch located on the front dash below and to the left of the steering wheel and near the door. The trunk pops open and the key fob can be retrieved. Problem solved!

OK guys I tried it again tonight and it worked for me everytime.
- Lock the doors (with door handle button)
- Open trunk (button on the chrome lip)
- Toss fob in trunk
- Close trunk
Trunk popped and a continuous beep for about 5 seconds.
I can't figure out what I did differently last week when I can't get it to work.
Bottom line is, don't trust the key fob.

Yeah. Don't trust the key fob is the right statement. Based on my experience, it is more than possible to lock the fob in the trunk when all the other doors are locked. The whole point should be that the system ought to work, as advertised, much more reliably.
I'd like to hear what others may have been told by the dealer's service departments about this problem? My Infiniti service guy simply said that "it happens". Not very reassuring.
