How come 328 hp feels slow.
I have been babying my brand new g37x sedan because its pretty new.
But today was a nice day so i drove around in a normal manner.
But the car seemed pretty slow from red lights and stop signs compared to most other cars around me.
Am I just not used to the new car or is the 328 hp just a sales gimmick.
I think I should have gone with my other choice which was the cadillac cts.
I have 700 miles. How big of a hit would I take if I traded in a new car?
Should I wait and see if the G gets better? Is it better to trade in now or wait?
Or am I stuck with it.

There's well-known low-speed bog with the 7AT... but most, if not all 7+ speed autos suffer from this, unless you're in a $100+k supercar.
Take the G out on the highway... they are incredibly fast once you punch it and the car has room to rip through the gears. Trust me.

unless you are getting a CTS-V, otherwise the G37 is quicker then the CTS direct injection. I test drove them both as well.
Yes you will take a pretty large hit on selling the car now, since it now be considered "used". I would expect about a 2-3k difference then what you paid....

I felt the same way when I bought my 37xs AT. Holy cow is this car slow from a standing start. But, give it time. Break the car in first properly as per the manual. Then after that, start training the auto tranny to follow your driving style. I promise that once you hit 5000 miles you will think differently. The 37 comes alive at much higher revs than say the Caddy because of the lack of torque but once you learn how the harness the power properly you will be satisfied IMO.

In my opinion, the transmission is designed to get you to 7th gear as quickly as possible. This programming enabled the gas mileage that is advertised.
Put your foot in it a bit, and you'll find that few cars can keep up. The gas pedal isn't wired to bolt you to 60 when you feather it - quite the opposite.
First gear is also very short on this car, so you might get the sense that you're "winding it out" a bit more than you do in a 5AT transmission. This can create the impression that the engine gets winded easily...again, IMO.

I think there's plenty of torque, it just makes it higher in the power band than the competition. Check out the 2010 comparisons:
Weight is also an important factor, and results in the following ratios of power to weight:
Infiniti G37 Sedan: 328 hp @ 7000 rpm, 269 ft. lbs. torque @ 5200 rpm
Lexus IS350: 306 hp @ 6400 rpm, 277 ft. lbs. torque @ 4800 rpm
BMW 335i: 300 hp @ 5800 rpm, 300 ft. lbs. torque @ 1400 rpm
Acura TL: 305 hp @ 6300 rpm, 273 ft. lbs. torque @ 5000 rpm
Audi A4: 211 hp @ 5300 rpm, 258 ft. lbs. torque @ 1500 rpm
Cadillac CTS: 304 hp @ 6400 rpm, 273ft. lbs. torque @ 5200 rpm
The Infiniti wants to be run at 5k rpm to get the most out of the engine, whereas you get strong pull from the forced induction (BMW, Audi) engines pretty much right off the line. Infiniti tries to turn this lack of low-end torque in their favor by defining "acceleration swell", which to me only really means that the torque builds, and then the transmission does it's best to keep it in the sweet spot if you're hammering it.Lexus IS350: 306 hp @ 6400 rpm, 277 ft. lbs. torque @ 4800 rpm
BMW 335i: 300 hp @ 5800 rpm, 300 ft. lbs. torque @ 1400 rpm

Cadillac CTS: 304 hp @ 6400 rpm, 273ft. lbs. torque @ 5200 rpm
Weight is also an important factor, and results in the following ratios of power to weight:
Infiniti G37 (rwd): 0.091 (3613 lbs.) -- or 11.01 lbs/hp
Infiniti G37X: 0.087 (3791 lbs.) -- or 11.56 lbs/hp
Lexus: 0.087 (3527 lbs.) -- or 11.53 lbs/hp
BMW: 0.083 (3593 lbs.) -- or 11.98 lbs/hp
Acura: 0.077 (3975 lbs.) -- or 13.03 lbs/hp
Audi: 0.060 (3527 lbs.) -- or 16.72 lbs/hp
Cadillac: 0.078 (3874 lbs.) -- or 12.74 lbs/hp
Looking at this, the Infiniti is doing pretty darn good. A lot of 0-60 will come down to the better driver and gearing (and axle ratios?)...probably not enough reason to trade for another car in the same class, particularly if you're considering the Cadillac. The CTS has a slight advantage of 4 lbs of torque at the same peak rpm, but you lose 24 peak hp and end up with more than 200 extra pounds to lug around, or 80+ pounds if you're driving an X. Not a winning combination.

G37X is a heavy car. My G37S is about 200lbs lighter and to me doesn't feel slow from a stop, and I have an auto. Also I'm comparing my G to my previous car which was an 02 WRX 5-speed wagon.
But if you have been babying your car your ECU has adjusted to your driving style. Either reset your ECU or start driving your car more aggressively and keep it in DS mode. Your ECU eventually adjust. So relax and enjoy your car.
6MT or auto the G is not a drag racer. It's a luxury sport sedan or coupe depending on how many doors you have.

It's almost laughable that this forum has some people complaining about the mileage for the G37 and this thread doesn't think the car is fast enough! The car is plenty fast enough to get people into trouble and competent enough to help drivers get out of trouble at the limit. To get the same kind of HP from a V-6 that a small block Chevy used to get in the past is remarkable, but to balance that with better fuel economy makes the VQ37VHR a technological miracle.
To the OP, please sell your G37x and take a bath on the resale. Maybe it'll go to somebody who'll appreciate it for for what it is...the best AWD sport sedan on the market for the money.
