09 G37x Road Noise
Hello fellow G37 owners.
I've had driven my car for about 1000 miles now and notice that the road noise is pretty bad on rough highways. I can feel the vibration on my feet. My experience is on I5 between Seattle and Tacoma. On areas where the road condition is good, all is good but there are some parts of the highways that makes a conversation with the back seat passengers tough.
My tires are Goodyear Eagle.
Anyone else notice this?

Tires are a compromise. If you have quiet soft riding tires, they typically suck in anything other than a straight line. The performance summer tires they put on the G are sticky, rated for high speeds, and have stiff sidewalls that help with cornering. The compromise is that you have louder tires on rough road surfaces, and they don't last as long as most all-season tires.
Part of the equation is sound insulation in the car, but from what your describing, the issue is tire noise. If your priority is comfort over performance, make sure you take that into account when you replace the stock tires.

there is a new stretch of road near my house that makes my tires absolutely howl and vibrate. it's as if u take a wine glass and rub a wet finger on the rim, only much louder and deeper. it's definitely just that road. i don't know if you're experiencing that type of noise as well?

I assume you have the 17" all season tires. Have you checked the air pressure in them. They should be set to 33 psi. When I took delivery of my car it had 42 psi in all the tires.
You can go to the Tire Rack site and compare similar tires, in your size, for road comfort, wet grip, dry grip, etc.

also bear in mind that tire PSI affects gas mileage.
i have those crappy Goodyears on my 5 month old G37x and ran 33 in them. but the gas mileage was not so hot, so i upped the PSI to 36.
better results but yes the road noise depends on the tire quality.

I just did the Tire Rack comparison. The GY Eagles were rated very low, for just about everything except price
It would make sense if Infiniti put on GYs because they were cheaper then other compatible tires, but that isn't true.

Also agree with you that the Goodyear Eagles are horrible. Like you said, the only "plus" may be its cheap price. Switch to other brand when it comes time for new tires.

I think the dealers put that overly high pressure in the tires so the TPMS never illuminates during a test drive. If you put the pressure right where Infiniti tells you to on a hot day, come a pretty cold day, the TPMS light comes on. Avoids having to explain this to customers when they get in the car for a test drive and the TPMS light is illuminated.

Thanks guys, I didn't think about the tire pressure but I'll check. Does the G37 have the tire pressure warning/monitoring?
@Seoul37,
What kind of tire came with your car?
The part I get the most noise are I-5 Southbound exit 152-147 and around the Tacoma Dome area, exit 135-132.

Truthfully, I doubt that tire pressure is the problem at all. Some roads suck, and the G does transmit more road noise than some other cars. It's part of the performance tire compromise.

I got my 2010 G37 in Feb and noticed the road noise too.
However, I found the tire pressure was 38 psi at cold temperature. I adjusted all four tire air pressure to 34 psi. after that the ride has been much quite.
The stock tires are Goodyear Eagle. Those are definitely not quite tires. I used to have Michelin Primacy MXV4 on my old Infiniti after my old Goodyear Integrity. Man, what a day-and-night difference! The Primacy MXV4 is really quite. I think I'm gonna get Primacy too after these Eagles.
A coworker who drove Porsche before told me he could feel every podhole in the street. I suppose road feel is born with sports cars, that's how the handling is well done, isn't it?

Infiniti doesn't pay anywhere near the Tire Rack price when they buy them from Goodyear. But they will be happy to charge you double the Tire Rack price when you (like a huge percentage of car owners) go back to the dealer and just get them to replace the original tires with the same. This is a huge moneymaker for the car manufacturers and dealers and usually has more influence on the choice of tire that comes on your car than quality or performance.
