I have a case of the creep groans...

When I release the brakes from a full stop I hear a groaning noise from the front driver side brakes only. I can make it happen consistently. I've noticed it a couple thousand miles ago, but don't remember if it has been happening since when I got brought her home. The noise is annoying me and doesn't sound normal for a new car.

I have about 8500 miles on my G37xS.

Does anyone have this and is this normal? I'll be going in for an oil change in about 2k miles, so is this something that I should take her in for before my oil change? Are are they going to tell me this is normal?

shouldn't really be any sound coming from the brakes. def not normal.


car is under warranty. I would just bring it in if you can easily. make sure to get an appointment for a loaner car.

i get it once in a blue moon when its wet outside.. i think its just the little added friction that water adds to the rotors and brakes.
but if its happening all the time for you definitely dont be afraid to go in and get it checked out under warranty

after a hard stop? or during a hard stop?

Its after any stop. Just right when you start to release the brake pedal and you start moving.

Its kinda like sliding your finger on a fresly cleaned glass where there is too much friction so it doesn't glide, it kinda sticks and skips making a vibrating sound. (Hope this analogy helps)

Maybe you have sticky calipers that don't release fast enough? I'd just take it in if the dealer is close by.

I had the same issue with my 07 G35 and the dealership stated that is was normal. Their reason for stated this was they tried to duplicate the sound in the 3 other Gs and they all had the same 'groaning' sound.

I can also tell you that I do not have this problem in my 09 G37, so go figure.

Now I'm noticing the sound more, when I pulled into my garage and tested the sound with the window down, I can definitely hear it from the outside.

Looking for feedback from the G37 enthusiast community so I know if this is widespread or not. I know I'm **** about every sound I hear so wondering if it is just me or not.

Would appreciate it if fellow MyG37'ers chime in with whether they have it or not.

It's curious you don't hear it as you come to a complete stop. The conditions should be the same, right?

I get a small groan from my rear brakes when I park on an incline with the hand break on, just after I release the brake pedal and get out of the car but nothing during normal stop and go. I have the S 6MT btw.

I only get the groan when the brakes are wet. I have never heard it when they are dry.

I have a 09 G37xS and I too have the brake groan when letting off from a full stop. A partial stop doesn't render the sound. I hate it, makes my car sound cheap. I think its time to go aftermarket for some slotted/drilled rotors and ceramic pads, with some new fuel lines.

I have this issue with my car. It happens when pulling out of the parking after the car has been sitting there for a while, it's kind of annoying.

If you're releasing the brakes slowly, almost any car will make a dragging/groaning noise as the brakes slowly drag the rotor. Put it in park and do the same thing, and you'll find that there's no noise. You're just hearing the brake pads against the rotor. Let up on the brakes quickly as you pull away from a stop to minimize the sound.

Is this really that bothersome to people? There must be something else to this, because as far as I know, this just means we have good, grabby brakes.

The 2010 sedan, that I test drove, had the noise you describe. I didn't give much thought to it.
I didn't buy it because I wanted a different color/package combination.
They swapped cars with a dealer a few hundred miles away and that car doesn't have the noise.
I had a different model car several years ago where the rear discs would almost always make the groan type noise for the first several feet when I took off.

Agreed. This is normal for the G37 and occurs when the driver uses light brake pedal pressure. That means low brake line pressure and some noise from the pads dragging against the rotors.

I also question why this is bothersome to some owners. Infiniti has maximized the brake pad compound to make it suitable for a sport sedan, with empahsis on the 'sport'! If there's some squeaking, wear it as a badge of honor and stop the bitchin'.
