I agree with that. I have experienced and became spoiled by the BMW DI TT engine performance in my 07 lease; but burning oil and coolant make it a big disappointment for long term ownership. So, this is why for 2010, I'm choosing the more reliable and economical route of choosing a Japanese brand with planned long term ownership (6+ years). I suspect I'll go back to my old driving habits of driving peakier Japanese engines and be just fine - it remains to be seen how long I'll have my withdrawal symptoms from big torque down low...

i completely agree. I mean I would much rather have a 300/300 than a 330/270. it'd be a much more exciting drive.

What do you think causes 10mpg aver. on my new car. Is the computer screwd up. And NO I DON't ride the brake all the time!

we are seeing 21mpg average in mixed driving - the speed average shows ~25 to give you an idea - probably more than 50% city driving. this is also with my wife driving and she tends to get at least -2mpg in any car compared to when I drive it. Lead foot and doesn't really drive with a thought towards economy. On one 80% freeway trip when the car had all of a few hundred miles on it, averaged 25-26mpg range. I felt that was pretty good. Should get better as it breaks in and gets up over 5K miles or so I would think.

I dunno dude. I ask myself the same question. I keep track using the onboard, the fill up and obdII computer... and my fuel economy sucks...

I get better gas mileage (barely) when I floor it... I mean don't get it at all DS with a lot of accelerating is better than D slow acceleration.

60 miles on the odometer, 10mpg average. Mainly local driving, less than 35mph. Improved from 7mpg when she had 20 miles. She will be on the highway this weekend, will update the group after one full tank but I expect the mpg's to go up at least 100% from where there are now after 1,000 miles.

Increased mileage on 2010 models is based on "fleet mileage" standards
measured by EPA and CAFE standards. Nissan implemented their new oil mid 08 model year as their FF(factory fill) to increase their fleet mileage. since it was mid model year 08, it took 1 full model year for CAFE/EPA to verify increases..hence mileage increase did not show up on stickers
until 2010 models.

I usually have the car in "D" sometimes "DS" once in awhile "M". I drive about 50 / 50 Freeway and surface. Passengers sometimes kiss the ground when they get out of the car. :-) I still get a shade better than 20 MPG with a 2009 7AT. (I don't need the A/C here much and usually drive more than 20 miles at a time.)

this is true. but I think there are just caveats to that determination too. although the EPA rates the 2010 at 19 to 28. or something. did you see the delta on those numbers? it's like 15-20 on the City and 24-32 on the highway. I'm bitching and moaning about these numbers cause I'm seeing 12-14 city and 21-28 highway.

but yeah the factory fill oil makes a big difference in the EPA rating. This is why I think although the ester oil is nice, but it's an incredible dis-service to any VVEL owner for forcing us to use it and have it not be synthetic. I mean It's got me to want to try out the 300V... but i'm locked into the infiniti maintenance plan.

I changed oil and filter at 1000 miles and put in Mobil 1 5W30. dunno if it has changed the mpg, but I expect the motor will continue to do better as it breaks in anyway regardless of what oil is in there.

I was very pleased with my mileage driving from Austin to Dallas last week. I've got a 2009 G37 sedan with 8,000 miles on it.

The temp was about 45, no wind, dry, and overcast. I don't know if there was a gradual drop or rise in the terrain, but overall the terrain was low and long hills as Texas can be. I was on 35 headed north.

In each test I drove about 5 miles with the cruise on. At the top of a hill I would lock the cruise at a speed and reset the mileage guage. I took my reading after about 5 miles of travel, at the top of another hill.

At 75 MPH, I got 31.2 MPG.
At 65 MPH, I got 35.5 MPG.

57 miles from home I filled it up with Shell premium and completed my trip. I reset the gas mileage guage and left the gas station. I used cruise most of the way, coming into Dallas on 35E, then up 75 into Dallas. I often had to turn off the cruise and change speeds, lanes, etc... in 6:30 PM traffic. When I got home, the mileage read 31.5 MPG for the last 57 miles! Love it.

First tank 15.2mpg Refilled @ 280 miles

Second tank 18 mpg. Refilled @ around 580 miles

Currently 18.8 mpg, I did not reset when I filled up the 2nd tank so this is cumulative from when she had 280 miles.

All mixed driving, maybe 50 50

The thing I like about this trend is the car is hardly broken in, less than 700 miles on it, its in the middle of winter, less than 35 degrees since I got her and I am matching my 08 +40000 miles fuel mileage. it can only get better from here

FWIW. I just did a round trip from home to Denver Airport and back (right around 300 miles). All but 7 miles were on interstate and dash showed 71.4 mph. Mostly on cruise control. I got 25.3 mpg. Car has about 3000 miles on it. Temps were in the 40's and 30's. Little wind. One major hill each way (total elevation gain was around 3400 ft; 7200ft up to 8600 down to 5280 and reverse).

I'm sure it was that elevation that reduced it down. My Texas hills were pretty flat.

On my trip I can see that my test area between Austin and Dallas dropped from about 700 to 550 feet above sea level (according to Google Earth), so I did have a little help there - but nothing like the climbs in your test.

City 25%, Hwy 75%...City average speed 35mph...hwy average speed 75-80 mph...hope this help
