07 G35 --> 09 G37s

07 G35 --> 09 G37s
I traded in my early build (Nov 06) 07 G35 (with sport wheels) for a 09 g37s and here my impression so far.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
1. The 7 speed transmission seems to act a bit erratic around 2nd 3rd-4th gears
2. There seems to much more engine braking with the 7 speed. Reminds me of driving a stick.
3. The seat heaters seem to be improved in the 09
4. Wind noise is less in the 09
5. I do have a strange popping/clicking noise coming from the driver side dash when the car goes over bumps when the body gets twisted. This is very annoying for a car with 200 miles on it
6. The steering is significantly lighter in the 09. The 07 felt much better and more responsive. The 09 feels like you are driving a Cadillac L
7. The 07 had some discoloration differences in the different aluminum trim parts but 09 does not
8. Overall build quality seems a bit better but its hard to tell with such limited miles on the car. For example, the door panels don’t vibrate with specific speaker notes.
9. The battery in the 09 seems to have issues with cold starts
<o></o>
All in all if I could get the dash popping fixed and a new battery, things should be ok.

I'll chime in, our 07 G35Journey (drove 35k on it) and now our new 09 G37. Both were Journeys (non-sport), our 07 had the 18" wheel option, our 09 has the standard 17" wheels, illuminated kickpanels, and Premium pack.
Our 09 is better in these ways:
~Seemingly better, more durable paint~have 5k miles and not a single pit or chip on the hood. Hopefully the grill also has a more durable coating, time will tell.
~Quicker, at least in the "seat-of-your-pants" feel. I 've done a couple light-to-light sprints vs our 07 G and have been almost a car length ahead. The other driver is pretty aggressive so I'd say it's a decent comparo.
~Quieter, the new mirror profile may help, it's definately less in the wind noise department, can't be accurate about road noise since the 09 has the higher profile 17" tires. New aluminum sunroof deflector make sunroof quieter when open at speed. No interior rattles, very tight fit&finish. 07 had a couple very light rattles, nothing continual though.
~Much improved gas mileage, 15% improvement at times and at least 10% all the time.
~Transmission, very good acceleration through the gears and keeps the gears in theri useable range just about perfectly once it learns your driving style. Very smooth going up in gears.
~Auto Door lock option, nice feature, just be sure to have it programmed on or off depending on your preference. It has to be set by the dealer.
Our 07 was better in these ways:
~Tires, not sure what 17" they had in 07, but the 18" Potenzas were much better than the current 17" on the 09 (I realize the 18" was an option so they should be a better tire). The current 17" Goodyear RS-A All Seasons should not be on a car w/ this type of performance, much more suited to an Accord or Camry. You just can't get the most out of the G w/ these tires. Can't wait to change them out.
~Transmission downshift in the 30mph coasting performance. Seems to be a bit clunky when downshifting from 30mph and a bit hesitant. I've noticed this occurance less as time goes on so I'm assuming as the trans learns your driving habits it tends to smooth out.
To sum up, not much to dislike the 09 over the 07, and if the paint holds up like advertised it's a clear winner IMO.

Well I have not pushed the 09 too hard yet because it only has 400 miles on it. However, I can tell you that the turn in seems much faster on the 09 than it did on the 07. This might just be my impression because of the very light steering on the 09 but I find myself apexing turns too early in this car. I did have the sport wheel and tires on the 07.
At this point the 07 seems to have had a bit more low end response (could of been the overly aggressive tip in issue) while the 09 seems to pull more around 3.5K.
I'm still dealing with the popping/clicking noise on the right side of the dash. So if anyone has any ideas to help me it would be appreciated. It almost sounds like a small rock hitting the windshield.
As far as the mod'ing goes. Im a bit old for that but back in the day I was one of the first people to have a sub 13.3 1/4 mile in a front wheel drive Eclipse. Then I grew up and went to a 97 Z28 and got that down to 13.1 along with a full race suspension. Now I'm just too old and tired to work on my cars.
BTW I also have a 03 FX35

^ I hear ya. My first mod was venting the doors over the battery and windshield tank on my new 1970 240Z.
I like the G because is has a lot of the features, stock, that I would need to mod on other cars. For me, all I need to do is enjoy.
