Did not race anyone, but it was kind of dangerous how fast this thing would go on a straight line and then through a curve with this drive system. Maybe we could do some ice racing with the spike tires, that sounds cool.

Great article! Now if I just had a garage to store 4 tires in when not being used, I'd be in luck? Anyone want to contribute to the garage building fund?

Do what the rest of us did before we could afford garages. Clean up those alloys and tires before storing them in your house or apartment. They make great living room sculptures!

Hey! I had not thought of that. Actually, a garage would not fit on the lot anyway. Maybe I could squeeze them into our storage shed. Wife's bike might have to be jettisoned though.

Thanks for the info. My experience....M35X with stock Goodyear tires in snow
and ice....in one word, "SUCKED". Changed to Bridgestone 'Pole Position"s and
greatly reduced road noise and increased dry and snow/ice performance significantly.

So far, the new stock Dunlops on my G37X perform as well or better than the
Bridgestones on the M as far as being quiet and snow/ice grip. The verdict is
still out on how the Dunlops wear. So far I'm liking the $160/tire Dunlops
as compared to the $220/tire Bridgestones.

Not familiar with M35X oem tires. Were those Goodyear RSA's or another type of Goodyear?

The RSAs were OE from 06 until last year when they switched to
the much better Bridgestone Pole Positions.

There were about 4-5" of snow on I-25, just north of Denver, when I drove in blizzard conditions last winter. I was very impressed at the traction the car provided, and easily and safely did 60mph. I certainly felt more secure than had I been driving our Toyota Highlander.

Sorry man, but I have a bit of a hard time believing that...

edit" I'm not trying to sound hostile or anything, I just feel that statement a bit exaggerated

Why the skepticisim? A Toyota Highlander has a considerably higher center of gravity and doesn't handle or brake nearly as well as an AWD G37X.

I have owned two G35x sedans, an '03 and currently an '07. Am picking up a new '09 on Friday. I live in Vermont and have nothing but good to say about the AWD system. I run four Blizzak's in the winter and can go virtually anywhere. This car has the best AWD system I have encountered, better than my Acura RDX even.

My 09 G37xS's Dunlops came off last week and the General Altimax Arctics went on just in time for a 5cm wet snowfall and subsequent freeze on the weekend. Our winter lows in Edmonton can drop as low as -40 (that's the same temp in C or F degrees, f.y.i.) and any all-season will be as hard (and tractionless) as a hockey puck at that temperature. The General's, tho not a V rated tire, provided great traction on the ice. They are quieter than the stock Dunlops and the softer rubber/sidewall absorbs road imperfections better. I am looking forward to playing in the snow when we finally get a good dump! I already miss my V-6 Accord's handbrake, however.

It does (although rarely) get that cold here (farther south but higher up - record low minus 65 F) . Would probably need to change the anti-freeze ratio in the car too.

I live north of Denver in the Fort Collins area and I have a G37xS. I am really impressed by the AWD system (and the rest of the car for that matter). It's overall performance in the snow with the Dunlop all seasons is better than anything else I've driven. Snow mode isn't usually necessary, but I do find it helpful on glare ice and other extremely slick situations.

I won't be changing to winter tires. Even in the winter I drive 90% of the time on dry roads, and the performance with the AS tires is plenty good for commuting in the snow or for the occasional ski trip.
