When do you think the next gen g37 is coming?
Refreshes usually come half way through the life cycle of a car. The g37 came out in 2008 (though the 3.7 litre wasn't added till 2009 models). The convertible was added as 2009 model. The refresh is for 2010. So theoretically we should have another generation by 2012. It's competitors the BMW 3 series and Lexus IS are coming out with new models for 2012. Is that when we can expect infiniti to come out with the next generation?

Model year 2012 sounds right. Nissan usually goes about 5 years on a car....years 1-3, then a refresh/tweak for years 4-5.
The car actually came out in 07....so it should be "all new" in 2012. The coupe was a year behind the sedan...so they might keep that the same..meaning a new coupe in 2013 model year (fall 2012).
The G is really a great car...so I can only imagine what a re-engineering will yield!

I mean if you look at its competitors, they all have something amazing. Acura- gadgets and technology. Audi- interior and awesome 4 banger engine. BMW- handling and performance (especially 335). Lexus- reliability. However, one thing that bothers me about most of these cars (G included) is their "modern" look, especially BMW and Acura- they are hideous. Lexus is too vanilla and conservative. The only looks I like are audi and infiniti (especially audi, if they had the performance and reliability of the G I def would've gone with that). BUT if infiniti will go with their essence concept, it would destroy all of its competitors. It has BMW like performance, Acura value, Lexus reliability, and an Audi quality interior. All it needs is the look of the essence and BMW will be dethroned.

I'd say 2012 is right on target as well....this build is odd, though - new engine and minor interior refreshes for 2009, new engine and minor-medium tweaks inside and out for 2010, and I'd say they would leave it alone for 2 more years at that point.
As per the previous post, I'd say that that the G is the everyman - it has almost the gadgetry of the Acura, reliability is close to Lexus, the interior is getting really nice with 2009, and the performance - well, it is the only one out of the bunch to almost equal the BMW 335i - that's why the G is Consumer Guide's top pick for entry-level luxury sports sedans, beating everyone, because it is a 90 - 100 in all categories; that is, the G does **everything** really well. Not the best, but for loing-term ownership, I'll take #2 in all categories over #1 in one category , and crap in the others. That's a car I can live with. I had a G8 GT which was fan-effin-tastic in performance value, but sucked in just about everything else. That got old after 3 or 4 months.

Remember how much of an impact the worldwide recession has had on every automotive company. Nissan and Infiniti have no exemption and already announced a cut back in the number of new car introductions over the next five years. That said, the G series is the volume seller for Infiniti. I'd guess it'll get replaced in the next three years to keep it competitive.
Infiniti offers a unique blend of performance, technology and emotive design, something that most other car makers haven't stressed. Using elements of Japanese culture also separate Infiniti from other luxury brands. Look for certain design features from the Essence (but not the car itself) to appear in the near future.

Where are you getting this new engine for 2010 info. At this point in time info about the G 37 is like hunting for a hen in a fox house. I would love to see a DI engine in it when my new one gets here. It would make the wait worth it.

Here's an article from March that talks about DI being part of the mid cycle refresh before redesign.
Infiniti Readies Direct Injection for M37 and G37, Unsure About New Q - Car News - Car and Driver
I could have sworn I read a more recent article since that talked about not having DI until the redesign - but for the life of me I can not find that article and it is really annoying me. Maybe DI in the refresh was a casualty of the economy?
Anyway, since DI is not part of the 2010 refresh, I can't imagine that Infiniti will be putting it in before the redesign (which sounds like it will be 2012).
I'll keep looking for the article I mentioned above and post if I can find it.
