Problems with transmission?

i recently bought a g37x sedan, it has about 4k miles on it and today i took off at a stop sign in my neighborhood in regular drive mode. the transmission seemed to miss the 1-2 shift and after sitting at the redline for about a second in first it finally shifted. this has never happened before and i was wondering if there is a way to change the shift points on the transmission? any feedback is much appreciated

Seems there are more than a few people experiencing problems with the transmission; both upshifting and downshifting. Although I can't remember a problem exactly like yours being discussed, you might start here https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...-shifting.html and here https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...t-owner-s.html

That is nothing like any of the commonly reported issues. If it is only a one time occurence, you might not worry. If it happens again I would get it to the dealer.

My car has done that a couple of times but not for a full one-one thousand second, more liek a split second and then shifted after hitting the rev limitter. If it is a VERY VERY rare occurance like my car, dont worry about it.

it seems to be doing this every time its floored in first from a dead stop ive tried it in both d and ds mode. when i try it in full manual mode it does not do it it shifts perfectly. i was wondering if the newly released TSB: ITB09-032 would maybe fix the problem? I found this here: https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...downshift.html im assuming it will change the shift logic for the transmission if it is in fact an electronic problem

I have seen something similar to this, but only if I shift with the paddles. It will hold the gear no matter the rpm usually till D kicks back in, taking anywhere from 1-5 sec.
Any chance you have paddles that you may have bumped?

No, its a 2009 g37x with premium and nav.. no paddle shifters although they would be nice lol. What i meant was that it only shifts correctly under full throttle from first to second if i am shifting manually with the gearshifter. the problem only happens when i am in d or ds mode.

The transmission doesn't upshift agressively if your foot is heavy on the gas.

I have and 08 coupe with the 5AT and I've had this problem on about three occasions. And I know its not hitting the rev limiter because that produces a soft fuel shutoff. For me there was a distinct 1-1000 pause, it felt longer though.

I thought the big thing with the 7AT was supposed to be the improved gas mileage. Just from reading around, it seemed like one of the biggest complaints with previous G's was the horrific gas mileage. However, I really haven't seen too many complaints (if any) about the mileage on the 7AT.

Some of the quirky shifting might be due to the shifting programming not being as tuned by the engineers as it could be. However, some of it could also be due to the tricks they have to play with the programming to keep the advertised mileage gains. If so, then there will probably be a certain level of quirkiness in the transmission that will never be fixed.

I can say though that these types of issues are not just limited to Infiniti. A lot of newer vehicles with 6 or more gears seem to have some sort of issue with shifting or hesitation. We have a newer GM vehicle with 6 gears that had really bad hesitation with its shifts. One of the engineers that worked on the shifting software said on a forum that it was just more involved to fine tune the shifting with that transmission and engine. However, they did offer a transmission shifting update similar to what Infiniti just did. They made it standard at the factory and current owners could get it from the dealer. I got that update. The shifting was better but it still had too much indecision for my tastes.

However, that engineer and his team kept working on it and GM was actually pretty cool in the end as they offered another "optional" update to the shifting software. It was optional because you could lose up to 1 MPG. To keep their advertised mileage the same, they wouldn't be putting that transmission software on those vehicles at the factory, but they did offer it as optional at the dealership if the customer still complained about the hesitation. I immediately got that optional update and that did the trick for me. The shifting still wasn't perfect but it was more than good enough. Our MPG really didn't change either. The optional software made me feel as if I had a bit more control as a driver. When I punched it, it would accelerate much more readily and didn't hestitate nearly as often. However, of course, if you drive like that then your mileage suffers but at least it allows me to drive like that if I want. When my wife drives it, she gets the same mileage as before because she doesn't punch it as much as I do or drive as aggressively.

But overall, if you go look at forums for most newer cars that have 6+ gears, you'll find a thread or two about odd shifting or shifting hesitation. Not sure about stuff like flares or RPMs getting stuck for a 1 or 2 seconds. Maybe those are some kind of bug in Infiniti's hardware or software.

if you've driven a IS-F, you'd understand why our tranny holds up better than the Lexus 8-speed auto... that thing hunts for gears worse

I have cought some nice delay, i think this is because of the down shift rev match.

Mine is a 5 at, i did have a loaner with 7at.g37x.

so comparing both, the 7at is worse, seemed like it was always looking for the gear super annoying in stop and go.

I also think it has to do with the fact the throttle never fully opens & the car kinda chokes out.
