0 to 60 YouTube Video
I came across the following video on YouTube:
YouTube - 09 Infiniti G37x sedan 0 to 60mph
It seems this X sedan gets to 60 in about 5.5 seconds, which is a little quicker than what I've been able to achieve in my own X. If you watch carefully, you can see that the rpm's creep up to about 2,000 before an audible click and the mph starts to increase. Is this driver holding down the break at the same time he is pressing down on the accelerator get a better "jump" when he floors it?
I suspect this is a rather pedestrian question, and reveals my utter lack of knowledge about racing or performance cars, so I am anticipating a bit of flaming. I just wondered whether I was seeing what I appear to be seeing and whether it's bad for the car to do this kind of thing. If he is giving it some gas while holding down the break, does it actually help off the line?
Thanks for enlightening me.

THats brake torquing. Gas + brake to 2k rpms then release brake and floor it.
On a RWD car it will not do anythign for you but on an AWD it kicks you into the seat for a split second so it definately feels a little quicker at launch. Any measurable difference? Doubtful.

That looks like a g35(wheels) but whatever, some people race anyone just for fun... lol
Also at the track they sometimes line you up randomly, so maybe the guy was like "Oh, great...."
How bout this guy? See 53 seconds in --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RU2IykYEnc8

I noticed in both of those 0-60 videos, the autos were in DS. Does this really make a difference in performance of a 0-60 run? I would have thought that even in "D" the car will go to redline.

Wouldn't the G37X be faster 0-60 than a G37 RWD unless it's that much heavier... motortrend caps the G37 Sedan S in 5 flat. And edmunds/insideline i believe does it in 5.3?? [correct me if i'm wrong about edmunds/insideline]

Edmund.com says M5 0-60 4.8sec, and 1/4 mile 12.8sec, G rwd 0-60 5sec, and 1/4 mile 13.4sec, but how come the video seems G is much slower than M5? it doesn't feel like different within one second......

Second, 1 second in the quarter mile is huge. At 100 miles per hour, a car travels 145 feet in that one second. Basically, if both cars were traveling at 100 (the M5 will be going faster btw), the M5 would be ahead by 145 feet at the end of the 1/4 mile race.
