My wife’s Lexus IS250 does that, and I really like the feature. Also, her instrument panel has some other features my G does not have, like light rings around both the speedometer and tach that change color (none, yellow, red) based on driver settings for speed and RPM. For example, she has her speedometer ring set to go to yellow at 75mph and red at 85. She’s had no speeding tickets with this car.

Sometimes features are left out not only for cost saving, but to differentiate between said car (G) and the next level up (M). Maybe the Dial Dance is an example of this.

The point should be obvious. It warns the driver when he/she, let’s say, is around ten miles above the speed limit (yellow) and warns them again when they’re in ticket country (red). It’s actually quite easy to notice the rings as they appear rather than always glancing at the numbers.
For the tach, it certainly gives an instant indication when red line is being approached. In our car I’ve got the yellow set to 5K and the red at 6K.
Trust me, the day they add them to future G37’s drivers will use them and appreciate the enhancement.

Wow, cool feature, I want it.
I wonder how much it'll cost to do a 2010 instrument gauge cluster conversion on the 08 G37.

I meant what is the point of the tach sweep when starting the car...other than being "cool"? I guess people like gimicks.
