Well, there would be the Pontiac G8 Gt, which has 381 lb/ft vs the G37 at 270. So you could say it's got a little bit more grunt. There's also the Camaro SS, the Charger, the Challenger SRT/8, BMW 335 (300), lots of performance cars have more torque than the G37. But I still enjoy my G37, and it's plenty fast 0-60. Having owned a G8, I'd have to say the torque comes into play more so at freeway speeds - It makes quite the difference in say, 70-100 mph times.

Superchargers are good for low-end torque. I'm sure somebody makes one for the G37, but I haven't owned mine long enough to know enough about performance shops / parts manufacturers for this car yet...on my old car, people always adding a supercharger, and getting about 60 whp / 80 lbs wt from those sorts of mods...plus, they tend to boost gas mileage as well...you could always get a Cobb accessport tuner for an easy mod to get around 15 hp right away. In my old world there were CAIs an less restrictive exhaust combos that were always good for 20 or 30 lbs of torque (with a good tune). People were always porting throttle bodies, changing cams, lifters, injectors, all sorts of stuff. But our VVEL is such a different animal then the GM LS-series engines (which are super easy to mod), and I have a lot to learn about them....

My last two cars were Mustang GT’s and one of them had a 4.10 rear end gear. It was a torque monster. I knew I would be giving up low-end torque when moving to this car. I posted about this a month or two ago before I bought this car. I did drive the 335i and seriously considered it. It has excellent torque throughout the rev band. One thing that does help with the G is to own a manual trans. I can keep the motor in the sweet spot because I control the gears. If you use the paddle shifters, the experience should be somewhat similar, but you still have a torque converter to deal with. I can also launch the car with the motor in the sweet spot because I have a manual. This helps a great deal off the line.

I’ve only had the car for about a week and I’m pleasantly surprised with 3.7L motor. It’s pretty sweet, but yes, does need to be rev’d up to make power. I don’t think I’d be as happy with the G if I had to buy with an auto trans. That is not a dig on anyone, I just don’t prefer auto transmissions in sport oriented vehicles. <O</O

I was actually wondering if there is a way to defeat the atessa system when i would like to. Also there is a way to increase Hp and Torque on the g37 sedan to outrageous numbers. There is a turbo kit plus more now... Check this out... Gt Motorsports 700hp
I'm not sure if its okay for the X model but... WOW!

A mustang GT with 4.10 gears, now that's torque. Especially the fox body 5.0 mustangs. Mine coule do nice burnouts off the line in second gear. In first it was jsut pointless...
The G does not have low end torque. Sure you can rev it and drop the clutch but that won't last very long. Witht the 7AT you can also brake torque it and then launch. Even the Hyundai v6 in the genesis has a better torque curve. Where thew G excells is high RPM horsepower.
One thing is for sure, the G has CRAZY gearing which makes he car rev rev rev and THAT is what you are feeling. The 2004 TL has a 5 speed transmission (or 6MT) and still revs like 1500rpms at 60mph on the highway. My G37XS is already well into 3rd gear by 60mph.
The G is great fun to drive so just try to pace yourself I gues... LOL

IMO, what the G37 lacks in torque makes it up with the 7500 rpm red line. This engine keeps pulling strong all the way to its red line as opposed to high torque engines that typically fall flat as soon as soon as you hit 6000 rpm.
