Will you pay $500 to repair a scratch in the rear bumper?
Greetings:
I just got a little accident with my 09 G37x (950 miles) and have 3 serious scratches in the middle of the rear bumper. 2 above and another little one below the license plate. The dealer body shop quote me $300 to cover just the scratch areas and $500 to cover the entire bumper. For the later, the bumper need to be disassembled, sand down and repaint entirely. I have got 3M installed protection almost everywhere (entire front bumper, hood, fender, A piller, partially roof, rocker panel that extend all the way after the splash guard, luggage area and just finished installed all 4 doors today). However, due to the rain, I haven't got a chance to install the rear bumper myself before the accident.
Chosing option 1 i.e partial bumper repaint, I assume that it will lead to the paint peel off sometime down the road and not warranty for the life of the car.
Chosing option 2 i.e. repair the entire bumper, I will loose 3 3M pieces, the luggage area $30 and the rocker panel $300 and I am not too sure the rear bumper will be perfectly aligned after being assembled.
I am thinking of an option 3. I will locally sand the scratch area down using dremel, fill up with an J-B weld epoxy, sand down again and use touch up paint.
Leaving these scratches is not an option since I have to installed 3M on the rear bumper.
What would you do if you were in this situation?

A good shop will deliver you a car that appears factory new in terms of the part they repaired, case closed.
Suck it in and pay the $500 and you won't have to think about this each time you walk to your car in the morning and evening.

Judging by the description you give, I guarantee you that you will make things look worse and make it more costly to fix right by going with option 3. Being that it is a new car, I suggest you get it fixed correctly. If the shop wants to take the bumper off to save the time and effot of taping and bagging the car, they should be able to put it back on without any fitment problems. Also, $500 is not out of the line for a bumper respray.

Thank you all for your advice and comments.
I don't mind to pay $$$ to repair the bumper; however, I fear that thing won't fit properly when re-assembled.
I wonder if the bumper is easy to disassemble and re-assemble.
I don't know why but I don't have a good vibe about this car since I've got it. Things don't seem to go smoothly as it was with my other two. First, I have to drive three times to the dealer (100 miles bothway, several hours driving through NY city in the traffic) to pickup the car. I refuse the first one due to paint chip and some black grime on the rims that can't be removed. After pickup this one, the rims still have the black grime, the AC doesn't work and need to replace the evaporator, the rotor has to be re-surfaced even though I only had a couple hundred miles on it, the intermittent cracking noise in the dash board and the little accident. God knows if I have any more of these surprises and may be the Infinity is not meant to be mine.
