noob questions
Hi all, I'm new here, just picked up my G w/S pkg on memorial day. Feel so good to be one of you. I have some questions about the car, please help:
1. do I need to take off bumper to change the fog light/park light bulbs ?
2. what kind of suspension they put in the sport pkg? is using different shocks or springs from the non S?
3. if I replace the factory springs with tanabe NF210 springs, will it damage the factory shocks? will it be stiffer? or better performance? does tein make springs for G sedan?
4. I see GTSpec is the only brand made G sedan struct bar, but I heard it will scratch the engine cover, is it true? any other brand to choose?
5. with full tank of gas I can only run 3xx miles, is it normal? I'm still breaking in, @700 miles.
6. is the G sedan w/7AT faster than bimmer 330ci on launch?
7. if I want to change the filter, which one is better, K&N or HKS hybrid?

1. do I need to take off bumper to change the fog light/park light bulbs ? No, you can do the fog lights by taking out the Intake boxes and the parking lights by peeling away the wheel liner.
4. I see GTSpec is the only brand made G sedan struct bar, but I heard it will scratch the engine cover, is it true? any other brand to choose? I saw pictures of another one but haven't seen any more details, and I hadn't heard about it scratching engine cover. You just have to make sure it's adjusted high enough over the cover.
5. with full tank of gas I can only run 3xx miles, is it normal? I'm still breaking in, @700 miles. Normal. 20 gallon tank at 15mpg is 300, so assuming you're getting 18 maybe thats mid 300s.
6. is the G sedan w/7AT faster than bimmer 330ci on launch? Yep

Welcome
2. what kind of suspension they put in the sport pkg? is using different shocks or springs from the non S?
Yes, different shocks and springs . . .
3. if I replace the factory springs with tanabe NF210 springs, will it damage the factory shocks? will it be stiffer? or better performance? does tein make springs for G sedan?
The NF210 has the mildest drop / spring rates of all aftermarket springs, so they should be good for a few tens of thousand miles on your oem shocks. Remember, factory shocks would go out eventually, but you are shortening the life of it by using springs not rated for the shocks (though I think in the NF210's case, its only 5% difference so should be ok).
4. I see GTSpec is the only brand made G sedan struct bar, but I heard it will scratch the engine cover, is it true? any other brand to choose?
Circuit sport makes a strut bar also, here's one of the link: http://www.phase2motortrend.com/cispalstbarg.html
5. with full tank of gas I can only run 3xx miles, is it normal? I'm still breaking in, @700 miles.
I would say high 3xx is normal, depending on your mix of highway / local. I consistently get 20~21 mpg with 80% freeway, 20% local (around 360 miles when the light start to come on).

2. AFAIK, only the shocks have a different part number.
3. if it lowers the car, then yes, it will eventually cause the shocks to leak and then blow. (This goes for any car that is lowered on springs only).
4. It will not scratch the engine cover if properly installed.
5. You have 20 gallons, of which 17-18 is realistically useable. MPG varies by the driver, so at 15 MPG, you'll get about 260 miles out of a tank. At 25 MPG, you'll get about 440 miles. YMMV, pun intended.
6. You will completely utterly destroy a 330ci. 255hp versus 328.
7. IMHO, OEM is best.

I know the OP didn't ask about "..in a race with a 330i..." but i was just thinking about racing a 330 and thought this...
A perfectly driven 6spd 330i can get down to low 14's, and a poorly driven 5AT G37 can be in the low to mid 14's...
IMHO it's a driver's race, unless you get the jump on the 330i you're racing.
