Ok - a leaking sunroof is not normal no matter if it's raining or you are in a car wash - period! It would be 100% unacceptable! Your dealer's maintenance dept adviser is an idiot! Tell them to fix it or take it to another dealership!

Well, rained again today, paid more attention to the drive (music off). So, water is present in the sunroof gutter, which after reading various sites appears to be normal as long as the 4 drains are running properly. The gutter does get wet with water, but definitely not overflowing, but still manages to have a few drops onto my passenger seat.

Funny thing is hear something in my rear left area of the car (like a creaking noise/water sloshing). after driving in the rain for a whlie. Wonder if the drain on that side is malfunctioning, accumulating some water along that side. Will call my dealer tomorrow and see what happens. Hopefully I won't run into the same issue as the initial poster did. Kinda sucks in a car that only has 3000km, but I guess if people can win lottery's, rarer things have happened.

Called sale person who sold me the car 2 months ago, transfers me to the service dept, but tells me for now to simply keep the retractable sunroof liner closed, b/c that's what she does with her own Infiniti at the car wash to keep it dry inside, b/c she gets some leakage at the touchless car washes. (I'm surprised on 2 counts. 1 she actually uses touchless car wash on her Infiniti, or maybe it's company car so she don't care. 2. she isn't bothered by her own sunroof leaking in a car wash?). She seems nice enough anyhow. I just want my car to defend against heavy rain, I don't even use car washes.

Service rep who I was transferred to didn't sound too enthusiastic. I tell her I'm travelling from about 90km away, so I'd prefer a saturday, which they aren't open for service on, and on weekdays 3PM is the latest to drop off a car in person if I want to discuss with service rep. She suggests I take my car to a closer Infiniti instead, about 60km away. I'll leave work early in 2 weeks time to accomodate this, as I'd prefer to have servicing done at same place of purcahse. Will see what happens in 2 weeks.

It's been 2 months and the sunroof is still leaking through the car wash. I LOVE the car but am fed up with holding a stupid towel to the sunroof every time I go through the car wash. I was advised to contact Nissan Corporate and raise the issue to them. I will post any updates...

Pornsstar, do you know what adjustment they performed exactly?

I took my car to the dealer, and technician said he performed some water test, and couldn't find anything wrong. He asked about the quantity of water leaked (water sprinkles), # of times happened (3). Anyway, I'd way prefer some adjustment similar to what you had, but they are going to be ordering in sunroof glass and seal to replace. I'm not exactly sure I like that idea, b/c I'm sure they are gonna have to rip apart the headliner and stuff to replace that part, and possibly introduce more squeaks/rattles to the car.

Anyway, parts on back-order, possibly in next month.

I called Infiniti Corporate today and filed a complaint. The representative agreed with my complaint and said they would have a Regional representative contact me within 2 days. In addition, they would also contact the dealer and find out why the issue wasn't further addressed.

On a side note, the dealer said the manual disclosed something about how some water may leak in the sunroof. I took a pretty indepth look at the manual and I DID NOT find any verbage that would hint at the sunroof leaking. Did anyone else come across anything that says the sunroof may leak? Or did the dealer blatently lie to me?

He lied. No car company would ever call leaking sunroofs normal.

Ask them to point out that section regarding some water may leak - they won't find it. The manual only says to remove water drops, ice, snow or sand from the roof before opening.

The first thing they should have done was check the seals and try adjusting the alignment as outlined in the service manual. If there's a gap it can easily be adjusted.

Im going to take a shot at this since i am driving a demo car. Opening and closing the sunroof is NOT easy. Sometimes when you think you have closed it, it is tilted as some strange angle. I fuss with it for 5 minutes to get it to close.

The sunroof is not hard to operate. If it's closed, push the "CLOSE" side of the button to tilt it open, then hit the "OPEN" side of the button to tilt it closed. From the closed position, push the "OPEN" side of the button to open the roof, and then the "CLOSE" side of the button to close it. You don't need to hold the button - just push it once and it moves all the way. RTFM!!!

BTW the gutter is along the INSIDE of the opening, not the outside. It will channel any water drops that may come in to the drains at each corner. All sunroofs have this gutter/drain design.

Thanks again.....opening and closing a sunroof should be able to be done without a manual.
Again I dont have a manual in the loaner car they provided : (

And there is some combination that DOES tilt it a few degrees down on the front of the car and a few degrees up on the back of the car. You CANNOT tell this from the inside of the car where it looks completely closed. It isnt until you get out of the car and look at it and shrug wtf. I will post picture of this when light out.
