In the G37 Sedan Owners' guide, it says 1200 miles (I double-checked that before I went on a 300-mile long round-trip, which I had to drive at a constant speed ~70mph for 2+ hrs...)

how should i drive throughout this period though? thanks!

The manual says:
Avoid driving for long periods at constant
speed, either fast or slow. Do not run the
engine over 4,000 rpm.
● Do not accelerate at full throttle in any gear.
● Avoid quick starts.
● Avoid hard braking as much as possible.
I'm at 500 miles too. I think I hit 5,000 rpms two or three times, but not higher than that. I've never been at full throttle, and my breaking has been reasonable. If "quick starts" means fast acceleration from a stop, I'm guilty as charged... I don't floor it, but I often give it some oomph from a light.
What isn't clear is how much it really matters. Some people will tell you it makes no difference as long as you don't abuse it. Others are completely obsessive about it.

Is a 1200 mile break-in really necessary?
I dunno. I'd bet Infiniti wants you to be conservative though since they probably don't make a lot on warranty work. On the other hand, I might be keeping my ride for a few years, so I was conservative during the 1st 1200. I just didn't want to roll the dice with a $40K car.

oh, and if you want, have an oil change after the first 1000 miles. but besides that don't wait 1200 miles to have a little fun. You're not taking it to the track.

Why on earth would you change the oil after 1000 miles?
In my case I mostly followed the breakin recommendations. That means I did not go the same speed for s long time, I never do anyway. I did not really run in over 4K RPMs, other than a few bursts to get around people on the highway. Of course 1200 miles was only two weeks for me.

There are some theories about the break-in oil. The first 1000 miles, you get more metal particules in the oil. So you could change that oil early.
But only the first time... after that no problem.
I never did it. But as long as we are talking about being extra careful. Why not change that break-in oil?

well then, I'm picking mine on friday, so I announce everyone that my break-in period will be 5 miles. After that anything can happen... I want to test the rev limiter at 7500
