Am I crazy for thinking the G37XS Sedan is too slow
when compared to a 7AT RWD? Lets magazine race for a second.
MotorTrend shows the 7AT RWD at 5 or 5.1 seconds and a trap speed in the 1/4 mile of 104.xx.
They also tested a G37XS and got 5.4 to 60 and a 1/4 of 13.9 @ 100.x
Now...both cars are faster than my Altima SE-R...tested at the fastest at 5.9 to 60 by MotorTrend (I think). This was for the 6sp standard.
Since my 6sp G37 fell through...i'm getting a 7AT AWD. This IS a fast car. Right? I dunno...I feel like in terms of performance, I'm leaving something on the table. The RWD Sport is faster, handles better and stops shorter. BUT these are only at the limit kind of things.
I don't race and don't usually floor my car. The brakes on the AWD tester felt great. I don't even fly around corners.
Thoughts?
BTW: Why don't they put the akebono brakes on the AWD car?

the 6MT G37 Coupe is supposed to do 5.4seconds 0-60, which is "quick" but by no means "fast".
The 7AT AWD is rated slower (as expected) because its AWD, which is heavier. If your looking for straight up performance, then look at the RWD 7AT, or possibly even a different car.
Take for example the Convertible. The cars are rated a bit slower and heavier, because instead of getting AWD, its getting a convertible top.
So in essence, you picked an option that increases the weight of the vehicle, so obviously the performance will be affected.

Unless you're drag racing or track racing, .3 sec is not noticeable on public roads. But if you really care about numbers, then you're better off with a G37 S Sport 6MT which also comes with better brakes and tighter steering.
I did not choose the RWD 6MT for the performance numbers, but for the driver experience.

They didn't but the Akebonos on to keep costs down. Plus the performance people are more likely to go for the non-AWD model since the weight is lower.
The G37 is a quick car but if you really want a fast performance car then there are others to consider.

Nope, you are not crazy at all. Absolutely normal...lol
High performance is not a G37's territory.
A G37 is rather the entry model among GT cars like the blend of performance, luxury, and comfort.
If you want the high performance with that price, you should look an EVO X , STI, and others. Then, you can feel the "step-up" in terms of the performance only.

The G37X delivers smooth performance across a very wide range. Its more than quick enough for nearly all street situations. My Mini feels fast--its light and torquey but "truly" fast--NO... The G37X replaced an Audi A-6 2.7T which was a very good perfomer but nowhere near the G.
Its all perception--forget magazine numbers.
Truly fast..nice to have but hard to use on street.

I agree with some that the low rpm torque and HP needs improvement. Sometimes I'm lagging behind other cars from a start unless I keep the rpms above 3.5k. Then she hauls *** at 5k but immediately I need to slow down abruptly for the next stop sign or light.

The must have been driving it wrong then. The E55 AMG produces 516 pound-feet of torque between 2,650 and 4,500 rpm. It does 0 - 60 in 4.1 seconds. Outside of top speed HP means little; acceleration is all about torque.

The Germans like "relentless" power. I just gave my "g" salesman a ride in my C2S. I think he was suprised how quickly it approached triple digits. No drama...just continues to build speed.
Don't underestimate the G37---its plenty fast. A bit heavy but they are all the cars are heavy at this point.

Acceleration is change in velocity over a given period of time. Thus, horsepower is what matters, with torque having a direct relation to horsepower. You can't have horsepower without torque.

Basically torque gets you going and HP keeps you there. Gearing also plays a big role as it determines the torque delivered to the wheels.
Look at the W211 E55 vs the W211 E63. They're basically the same car except for the engine and transmission. However, the E55 has a broader torque range and more torque whereas the E63 has more horsepower. The E55 beats the E63 off the line however, the E63 will catch up and pass it. Even crusiing at 55 - 65 MPH the E55 will still initally pull ahead of the E63 but then the E63 will pass it. That's because the E55 has the acceleration advantage with more torque but at higher speeds the horsepower of the E63 wins out.
