First impressions---WOW..
Picked up the G378X sedan Tuesday. My wife's car. I test drove one for a short ride but left the decision to her (she ultimately nixed the Lexus IS250 ( her other possible choice) for the G37. We did look at the 3 series , A-4 and C300, too) as she has let me get away with murder re: cars for a many years.
I did alot of reading and knew it was the right car but wanted her to figure that out, too.
Got a chance to spend the day with the car today. I am duly impressed. They clearly have BMW in their sights and that is a good thing( we did look at the 3 series , a-4 and C300, too) The power delivery is seamless and the car is quick. The steering is much more tactile than the A-6 2.7T we traded in for the Infiniti. Its very comfortable and drives "smaller" than its size.
The technology available ( prem, nav ) is astounding. It will take forever to get comfortable with all that is on-board.
My only nit pick is I find the brakes a bit grabby for my tastes and the trunk is not huge. I can adjust to the brakes and the turnk is big enough now that the kids are gone from the house.
Helluva a car for the $$ and if it proves to be as reliable as they are reputed to be, its a slam dunk. I am thrilled.
PS...SHE LOVES IT

that is exactly why I stood aside and let her do her thing.
She never says a word when I come up with some hair brained scheme to get myself a new car so why not let her pick HER CAR. Of course, it helps that she picked very wisely. I know I would have tired of the Lexus in about a month. Pretty car (especially the interior) but a pig with lipstick, IMHO.

actually she said..lets go to the autoshow and narrow the playing field.
Married almost 34 years and that is the first time I ever heard that phrase coming out of her mouth.
She usually has some crazy reason she does not like a given vehicle..Power window buttons on console.. dogs would open the windows. Those cupholders look stupid. Console does not have a good spot for my purse. Jeez...who cares...its a driving machine.
This time when we left the Lexus dealer she says...the speedometer is on the left and the 60-70 marker is behind my hand. The NAV is too low...I don't want to take my eyes that far off the road to use it..
I just turned to her and said...WHO ARE YOU, CAR AND DRIVER ????....
SHE NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME.

I love the "boards". Meet really nice people (most of the time) and lots of imformation to be gained. Have met 2 now very close friends on BMW boards.
Probably spend too much time on MINI and Porsche boards and (just for old time sake) Ferrari chat.

Cars are expensive..all of them. But driving around today all I kept thinking was ...this is an awful lot of car for the money (in todays' market). Smooth, powerful and comfortable. I also love the color combo---slate blue/graphite/wood.
Very nice job, Infiniti.............

We did look at the BMW. Shelly thought it was small (though she like the folding back seat) in the reat seating area and she thought the cupholders were stupidly placed (not a deal breaker) Personally, I am not a fan of the 3 series sedan styling--exterior or interior.
A 335xi would have priced out into the low 50s with nav and that was just more than we wanted to put into a 3rd car. I am a big BMW fan having owned 5 and 2 MInis but this would have had to be a 328 and I doubt that would have made me happy.
My cousin has a stick shift 335xi and its a really nice car. A friend of mine just bought an automatic 335i coupe and he loves it. That 335i engine is wonderful. I would like a 135i but trading my Cooper S would not work due to needing a car as a DD that is more inclement weather capable ( and it would cost way too much)
I think the G is very close to the BMW with much more content, less nose bleed pricing and hopefully less costly maintainence after warranty. Still loves BMWs but they need to work on the current styling to get me back.
