I have not seen this thread in a while but have followed the whole thing
since last year.
I think I've established that my noise in a Hyundai is the same but have not contacted the dealer and I run the circulation fan full blast all the time.
What I had to report was something else. I thought that the noise stopped when the key was turned off. But I had the noise for a few seconds-- maybe ten seconds after shut down. This would be like a stored battery charge to a part that finally dissipates after shutdown-- perhaps like a light dimming before going completely out. That was a weird one.
Still running the car fan.

Sorry for not updating this thread sooner. The techs at Austin Infiniti had my '08 G37 Coupe for a couple of weeks trying to fix the cruise control. They tried replacing the AC auto amplifier, instrument cluster, another ECM, etc. Finally they figured out that the problem was that they were using the wrong ECM. Apparently the database from the factory says that my car has intelligent cruise control, which it doesn't. Once they realized this, they were able to install the correct ECM with high-frequency fix. I've been running with this new ECM for several months, and it appears that the noise is pretty much gone. Although sometimes I get some spikes in the inaudible, higher frequencies. I'll do a quick check to see if I can still hear anything. Unfortunately my dealership didn't have the paperwork ready to go when I picked up the car to see exactly which ECM part number they used. I asked my service rep to send me a copy. Good luck guys.

I had the exact same issue. Took it in twice. 2nd time the service manager was able to hear it from front passenger side. It was the ECM behind the glovebox area. When they took the panels off the noise was much louder. They called infiniti and they said there had been other reports and it is not the speakers it is the ECM. They switched it out for a new one and the highpitched noise is gone. Hope this helps.

Went to the dealer and told them about the high frequency pitch and all three of the people I talked to we're looking at me like deer in a headlight!!!!! Common man where is the professionalism for god sakes, you are an Infiniti dealer and want to be like BMW, audi! Start acting like one! I could totally tell they were lying to me. Now will try another dealer and call 'Infiniti customer affair' You pay alot of money and get treated like they think you don't know anything, so annoying and still have the noise!
How can I prove to them that it's the ECM?

A few posts back Chrisneb posted a nice frequency analysis of the sound, as well as a short sound clip of the whine. I played it several times with the sound turned up - I cannot hear it. My '09 may be whining away and I don't even hear it.

I noticed that the throttle body chamber assembly, part number 1611K-8J10BRE, was emitting a high frequency sound, one that I was able to temporarily silence by applying pressure to it, so I replaced it. It's that finned part that is attached to the intake plenum and is located just an inch from the firewall.

Wow I have my whole system replaced with an aftermarket one and one day I started hearing what I thought was alternator whine. I checked my connections and everything was in order, but now it sounds like my aftermarket system wasn't the cause at all. Too bad infiniti will surely blame the system for the noise and won't work on it.

Further to my previous message ...
That didn't fix it in that the annoying sound can still be heard from inside the cabin. I now believe it to be the fuel pump because it can be heard for a split second when the key is first turned, but not so far as to start the engine. It only begins to make that high-pitched sound when the temperature has fallen to the freezing point, and the colder it is, the louder it gets.

same typical story here...just purchased a used '09 G37X sedan, and noticed the high pitched sound right away. thought I was crazy like everyone else, until I stumbled upon this thread.
I scheduled an appt with my dealer to take a look at it, and their response was "cannot duplicate". Their advice was to record the sound myself, and email them a clip....problem is my phone isn't picking up the sound on the recording. I guess I'll just take it back to the dealer and demand that they call Infiniti corporate for a remedy (the dealer of course hasn't heard of the issue before).
btw, i'm 27, and the sound is driving me crazy.
