I think the 3703 number tossed around was an actual weight of a tested vehicle... not manufacturer specs, which I would use for comparison between model weightss. I don't see how coupe weights won't change with the 7AT, although the 6MT should remain the same. For instance, the 2008 6MT coupe is 3664, compared to 3615 for the 2009 6MT sedan. So, yeah... it'll only be about 50 pounds, but still heavier between similar coupes and sedans.

Once again, I don't see how the coupe will be lighter, in same spec. The 6MT sedan will be lighter than the 6MT coupe, and the 7AT sedan will be lighter than the 7AT coupe. Nothing new, here.

Here is the spec sheet. The coupes weight did not change according to it.

I agree. We can go on all day about the 7AT sedan being faster...07g35 5AT...the 335i....IS350...etc. But just imagine if you were currently driving a 07/08 g35 sedan....you'd be feeling worse. And although I can't say that it doesn't bother me at all..cuz it does a tiny bit.....what puts a on my face is...to me the G coupe is the sexiest car out there (fixed up or stock) and just is the perfect blend of sportiness and sophistication. Plus, if all we cared about was speed...we'd be on a different site. I mean..I'm sure Gail Devers would smoke Beyonce in a 50yd dash....but who would you rather.......well....you get the point.

well said. I am ordering my G37 sedan today. Guy across the street has the G37 Coupe. They are two different cars and bottom line is they are both gorgeous rockets. Only people who may be bummed are recent G35 Sedan owners but even then, they probably got a better deal than I am getting. Imagine if we had paid 10-15 k more for the 3 series ? That would suck !

Ok, you're agreeing with me, right?

Weights, according to these 2009 spec sheets:

Sedan/Coupe

Base: 3581/3633
Journey: 3590/3642
X AWD: 3791/3847
6MT: 3615/3662

So, car for car, the sedan is about 50 pounds lighter than the coupe.

but on a side note,
how often does the majority of car owners fully realize the performance potential of their ride ?
.
i'll take the coupe over the sedan even if it had 30 less hp... but no less than 30... lol

are you all saying that those 50 pounds are the cause for the sedan to be faster by .4 s to 60 mph?

BINGO!!!!!!
Most G37S won't ever see the track or dragstrip.

Let's be honest-this is a grand tourer; not an all out sports car. If a person is so concerned about performance they should get the Z.

in most cars, equal hp/torque curves, and gearing.. its usually .1 in the 1/4 per 100lbs

most, but not all... the G37S isnt the easiest car to figure out how to launch on the strip either, it's finicky, once you figure it out, its a real performer.

I definitely do not represent the majority of car owners.

And 50 pounds is a fraction of the overall weight, but it still exists.

If nothing else, I just like to point out the irony of the sedan being lighter, faster, having 2 more doors, more interior room, bigger trunk, lower insurance premiums, and a lower price than the "sporty" coupe.

That's the part that gets me. Im not an all out performance nut but, the sedan makes me wonder why even bother with the coupe? Looks are subjective no matter what anyone say's... so that's a wash. Still both the the sedan and coupe are great cars. The sedan has taught me a lesson though... don't always think that having 2 less doors = better OVERALL performance

I don't understand...where is this weight discrepancy between the coupe and the sedan coming from? Like..what does the coupe have that is making it heavier than its sedan counterpart?

Beating it from a roll or from a dig?

I mean it's possible for anything to beat anything...a civic can beat a ferrari if the ferrari driver didn't really put more pressure on the gas pedal.

But the idea is that the SL500 traps consistently faster mph and finishes a 1/4 time faster than the G37, which is why it might be hard to believe.
