My 2011 7 speed S Coupe gets 18.8 on city driving which gives it a range of about 325 miles with 93+ Octane but can get over 500 miles on all highway driving averaging around 80mph. The variable valve really does do great things for Highway driving.

Hey guys....figured i would post here instead of starting a new thread....
So i dropped my 11' G37S Sedan off at the dealership last night for some service..and they gave me a 13' G37 (base model) as a service loaner...i drive the car home..as i normally do..and i was getting approx 26mpg on my way home...drive the car...the same way i drive mine to work...and i was still getting like 25-26mpg...which seems high.
well in my 11' i get much less than that...i average about 22-24mpg...thats commuting and everything else...this service loaner is pretty much same except non-sport..17" wheels..
i cant image those things make that much a difference in MPG...
DOES IT?
someone help me with this..lol..its driving me crazy

This is just a guess but the car adjusts to driving styles so if you have a heavy foot, it shifts at higher RPMs and gets worse mileage where if you drive in a more conservative manner then the car will switch gears at lowers RPMs and not accelerate as fast.
It may just be about how the loaner had been driven.

Just did a road trip to Vegas. On the way there I got 24.82 mpg. On the way back I got 26.25 mpg. I'm thinking the reason for the better mpg on the way back is that CA has at least 10% ethanol in all their gas. I don't think Nevada does...
Either way, 26.25 is a record for me. I set the cruise at 85 and had spikes over 100 here and there.

There seems to be different views on how to get the best MPG it seems. Some of the people on the forum state its best to shift in the powerband (3k) and others say to be easy on the pedal.. Personally when I'm in the city even if I shift in the powerband or go very conservative I get roughly the same amount of mileage. 480KM on a tank. 500 if I'm conservative. I would rather enjoy the car in the city and lose those 20km. Only FI cars have a big mileage difference in how you drive.. at least in the city.

After a few tanks... I get about 20 mpg. best was 23. worst was just under 19. But none of my tanks have been silly crazy ydriving. All have been sane driving with appropriate heavy fuel on on ramos etc. I live in the hills of VT/NH. bet in the flats it wluld be better.
Suspect 15 mpg being stupid, and 25 on the flats at 65-70 mph.
Takes fuel to make power, but it is HEAVY hills will hurt. Still better MPG than a 350 hp car from the 70's

I'm pulling a whopping 19.5 combined. I need to reset it now that things are broken in - I'm guessing it's a little higher now. I would classify my driving as "suburban mix". Not a lot of time in city/rush hour traffic but a lot of stop and go at times. I don't drive gently; I knew what I was getting into when I bought the car. Would I like it to get better millage? Sure. I'd also like it to shoot bourbon out of the exhaust. It is what it is
