On my very first tank of gas (filled up by the dealer when I bought the car last week), I averaged 22.4 mpg of combined city/highway driving. I was amazed by this since brand new cars are not supposed to get anything decent until after a few thousand miles...it's already getting equal or better mileage than the 07 G35 I just traded in! I'm definitely a happy camper.

I would love to be able to get the 30+ mpg some report, but it seems improbable. Gas mileage, for any car, is more a function of the car's weight than anything else. It's basic physics: it takes a a certain amount of energy to move a mass a given distance, and the G37 is no lightweight. It's hard to see how a 3700+ lb car could ever get over 30 mpg with a conventional gasoline internal combustion engine (I routinely get 24 mpg in steady highway driving, cruising 65 mph with cruise control). Diesel is a completely different story (greater thermal efficiency, etc.), but then, with a diesel the G37 wouldn't be what it is.

The car gets good gas mileage for a car with 330hp and that much weight. It is fuel efficient for its size and hp.
This is not the right car if you are looking for something that gets 30 + mpg.
If you want good gas mileage then get a car that is light with less hp or a hybrid. Just remember batteries ar expensive.

Man that is low gas mileage. I got better on a rotary shifting at over 9k every time.
I tested the G37 loaner out a great deal on my first tank and still got 15.5 mpg.
Have you ever shifted before redline>

12 Mpg!
Are you running CAI? I've had my Injen CAI on for about 3 weeks now, It definitely sucks fuel when you get on it. Much more than the stock intakes. Probably about 4 MPG when you bury the accelerator!
Heavy Acceleration = 4 MPG
Highway Cruising = 24 MPG
4+24 = 28 MPG
28/2 = 14 MPG sounds about right
Someone in So. Cal. try this one: Cabazon to Desert Springs 16 Miles. Average speed 83 MPH. Lots of downhill at the beginning. 39.7 MPG.
Sorry No Pic Blackberry 8830 doesn't have a camera.
You'll have to do a lot of coasting............... I'm not exactly sure that constitutes driving. Although I did average 83 MPH. and never dropped below 70.
What is this world coming to?
I am feeling better though, I filled up before my vacation @ $4.57/Gallon just filled up yesterday @ $4.11 Costco Garden Grove. If gas breaks below $4 I think they can close this thread.

St. Louis gas is always cheaper there
St. Louis gas is always cheaper there.
But our cars are usually less expensive because of the competition.
I'll check the price here and post the current California price!
