Why the TV screen ?
In a "drivers car," why the TV/NAV on display all the time? This is so past tense in that high-po, high-end uber performace vehicles are getting back to basics. The drive. Exhaust note and steering feel - not the damned TV staring one in the face.

It would be a huge step back.

But, I believe that if car makers elliminated the TV/NAV option in cars it would be a huge step back. In the future that little screen will play an increasingly more and more imporant role in transportation. The bottum line is this: It's still just an option, so if you don't like it, just choose not to have it. I personally love it. I do think it is time for the price for that option to come down, but I still love it. It's looks and feels very high tech. The Nav function is a 'killer ap'. Intergrating the display of the A/V controls and enviromental controls heightens the usablity of it. Add a telecomunication/internet/news/weather/traffic element to the screen and you've increased the monitor's usefulness by 10 fold.
There is absolutly no reason why we cannot have both the performance and the technology together. To eliminate one is to make only half a car.

I don't quite understand your frustration..... If you don't like the NAV, don't get it. High end urber performance cars don't have NAV because 1) They don't sell enough cars to justify investing in a dedicated electronic navigation system 2) They are no good at software programming.
Besides, I would hardly call the new coupe concept an urber performance vehicle. Just look at the size of the new coupe and the 200lb roof. The Infiniti coupe is more luxurious than it is sporty IMO. They are leaving the performance part to the GT-R.

Even the GT-R has a screen..... it shows you oil temp, water temp, turbo boost and many other information....
Every car now has a display (tv/nav) because they are useful for displaying information. Performance does not only depend on mechanical tuning anymore. The screen is more practical than you think it is.
