Detroit 2006: Infiniti Coupe Concept - the 2007 G35?

Reposting this from the G35 coupe sub forum-
Detroit 2006: Infiniti Coupe Concept - the 2007 G35?
Infiniti today unveiled a dramatic new concept vehicle, the Infiniti Coupe Concept, at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. The Coupe Concept takes Infiniti’s vibrant design vocabulary, which has helped establish Infiniti as one of the most dynamic brands in the luxury market, and “elevates it to the next level.” Among the Coupe Concept’s exterior design features are a full-length glass panel roof, modulated front fenders and hood, deep front spoiler and large projector headlights, polished bare metal-look paint, compact camera outside rearview mirrors, hidden door handles and large 20-inch, 9-spoke painted aluminum-alloy wheels. In November we reported that Infinti would show a new 2007 G35 coupe concept in Detroit, followed by a production model at the New York Auto Show in April.

The Coupe Concept interior combines a performance-inspired cockpit with a luxurious passengers’ space featuring a “double wave” instrument panel design, with large, violet-color gauge illumination and a dramatic, full-length center console. Specially textured aluminum accents project the image of traditional Japanese “Washi” paper, providing an added sense of warmth and crispness.

“The Infiniti Coupe Concept embraces the continuous advancement of Infiniti design with a unique combination of passion, imagination and creativity,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti.
i've wondered this for a long time... what is the point of the two openings on the front bumper cover? to try and block air getting to the radiator in the middle?
infiniti seems to like these on the g's. just curious as to why. something to do with zero lift?

I am with you..if the GTR is too expensive then I am upgrading my car to this..looks hot..need to tone down the back lights a bit..but even with those "in your face" back lights I love it..

and only if these beautiful interiors would make it to production but I guess i am dreaming..

Wow… this car is amazing!!! Getting into an accident in this car would be extremely costly. The body is almost one solid piece. I am guessing the production model will not be built like this. The rear bumper is intergrated with the complete frame of the car and the front bumper includes the fenders as well. The car is basically 6 pieces: (1) front bumper + fenders (2) hood (3) driver door (4) passenger door (5) rear bumper plus the rest of the frame of the car and (6) trunk lid. This would be a terrible design for a production model and for doing in types of mods to the body.

I think it looks alot like the Lexus SC430/Toyota Soarer (or actually they rebadged it as Lexus 430 in Japan this year) Anyhow, I love the SC430 so that's a compliment. Very sleek and clean design.

I went to the Detroit show today, and spent a lot of time studying this concept.

zmoothg--I did not notice the lack of front and rear urethane at the time, and wonder even now if the gaps are simply too small to be visible in the photos. If they aren't there, they no doubt will be on the production car. Similarly, I don't believe cameras in place of mirrors are even legal. This is a concept.

The revised body is considerably fuller than the current car's, making the concept a bit of a cross between a Lexus SC and the current car. It looks larger and more elegant, but something has also been lost. The new design somehow seems less pure, less clean.

The headlights have fins around the bulb housings that glow blue. Possible for production?

The concept's interior--seats, instruments, center stack--looks fantastic. And it looks very production-ready, with nothing aside from the camera-mirrors that's too far out there to seem feasible. Well, maybe that very oddly shaped shifter. Looks like it needs some viagra.

It's very close, especially the interior!

I think you right on the money concerning the interior. From the very beginning they have indicated the interior will be the area changed the most. And the interior of this concept is a vast departure from anything we currently own. I suspect the production coupe will be extremly similar to this concept car. I think they'll lose the glass roof, (add standard sunroof), put in standard rear view mirrors, lower the wheel size down a bit, scale the headlight size back just a little bit, and instead of those very pretty LED headlights, we'll end up with super-white Bi-Xenon (hi/low beam) headlamps with a slight blue hue. I also think the exterior will be VERY close (95%) to the concept, (I could see them smoothing some of the lower side panels). But I personally think what we see here is VERY close to what the production G35 will be.

interior is the only thing I really like. Front looks ok, but headlights and tailights are TOO BIG for my taste. Looks too american now. I'd like italian thin lights instead.

I love the entire exterior of that car...
Interior if it made it into production would be awesome.
I thinkt he interior will be reduced to something more everyday...looks to concept like for me.
If they produced that car just like that...I'd take that over the GTR.

^ shet! a man who puts looks over performance!

If they tweak the end of the Coupe Concept, then yeah it will be faaaaaaaaaar prettier than the GT-R, but damn, 0-60 in <4.0 secs vs ~5.5 ... I think I rather get the <4.0sec car and dont worry bout looks cuz people around me wont be able to take a good look at it >=)

Yeh exactly for a $30,000.00 spread on the two cars...
a 3.7 litre 330hp (rumor has it, it will be 330)...is fine with me.
Then take the $30,000.00 and save it.

GTR is unbelievably hot...but I think the G concept looks more luxurious than the GTR ... I don't know....someone buy me both.

keep the 30k or spend it on the G, you can't say its a GT-R unless you are a RICER that puts GT-R badge.
