Clutch issues
Hey y’all, so I bought an ‘08 g37s coupe a few months ago at about 90k miles, at about 92k miles now. This is my first step into the VQ platform coming from evo 8’s and s2ks. I didn’t have any issues until a slight coolant leak. I sold all of my tools and equipment because I moved into an apartment so I sent it to the shop to get pressure tested and they couldn’t find the leak, I’m guessing it’s coming from the weep hole of the water pump since that’s usually overlooked. I told them to just do an oil and trans fluid change while it was there. Got the car back and a day later my clutch pedal stuck to the floor which I’m assuming is the master cylinder. Not a single warning sign until it just failed. Had to float the gears just to get home. My question is, is there any way the shop messed something up to cause this? I think it’s a bit of a stretch but it just seems too coincidental. The car is currently back at the shop and if it is the master cylinder I’m just thinking I may as well do a full clutch/flywheel job while they have the trans pulled. How much am I looking at for a full master/slave cylinder and clutch/flywheel job? From what I’ve found it looks like it’s gonna be around 2k depending on the parts. If I’m doing the full job I want to get a solid clutch and lightweight flywheel setup (I know it’ll rattle) so any recommendations? I’ve done a ton of research and I know there are favorites but those threads were years old and wanted to know if there’s anything new that’s come out. Also looking for a reputable shop in Charlotte, NC as I just moved here and don’t have access to my trusted shops anymore. Thanks in advance I appreciate you all!

Thanks, it was the slave cylinder unfortunately. Got quoted $1,400 for OEM parts and $845 for labor. I’d rather go with aftermarket parts if I’m going to spend $1,400. The price seems high for labor though or is that about right for this platform?

I'm not sure if the '08 g37 is the same, but the '09+ g37 has the slave cylinder located within the transmission bell housing, so it requires dropping the transmission. Many people replace the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel while they're in there. It is a lot of labor, so that quote is probably fair.
