G37xS Coupe Reliability

Calling on all G37 gods!

I am planning on trading my 2017 V6 Mustang for a G37xS coupe, I see a clean 2011 G37xS coupe on Carvana with 31K miles, also looks like it has still intakes. How reliable are these vehicles? I’ve heard things about gallery gaskets and torque converter failing so far. Should I trade or keep the mustang? I don’t know any other fun car under $30K 😢

i have a 14 xS with 58K miles and no real problems so far. Can you send a link to the listing? Also, this forum is active, but it typically takes a few days to a week to get a response as most of us are not checking the posts daily. We dont suck, we just dont spend a lot of time on here. There are FB, IG, Reddit (etc) groups that will respond much faster.

I think this is the car in question.

https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/2164287

They're asking $25K for it. No idea if it's a good deal without knowing how many miles on your car, condition, and what they're offering.

From a performance aspect, i'd expect your mustang to be better given it's 7 years newer. Probably better gas mileage too and likely more interior space.
If you want better answers, provide more details... We're not phsycics here.

If it is the car u/Jsolo is showing...

Good points, the 2nd owner serviced it on a regular basis. It isn't showing any accidents. It comes with 2 keys and all the floor mats. It has the Stillen long tube intakes, pricey and a good mod. Noticed it is still the stock AWD fender gaps, OEM wheels and the exhaust tips look OEM so there are limited mods (maybe just the intakes)

Bad points, possible rust issues as it was in OH and MI all those years, but it's possible it was a fair weather car based on the low miles. Questionable as to why the rear brakes were changed but the fronts were not, typically it's the other way around (with the exception of the rear drive G's that also have to have the rear tires changed often... ) That could be a CARFAX error, who knows. Also surprised to see the AC needed recharged, never had an issue with mine, nor on our 15 YO Nissan with 200K miles, could be a leak. Also, the driver's seat is absolutely hammered sh*t for being just 31K miles.

You mentioned the gallery gaskets. Sometimes they fail, but its not a regular thing, it just bubbles to the top of the forum a lot when it happens because its a major repair. If it were me, i wouldn't base my decision on that as any car has its inherent issues.
Never heard of torque converter issues on these. As noted, i have nearly 60K on mine and never had an issue and i spend most of the time in city conditions using the paddle shifters, so I'm not exactly easy on it.

Hope this helps.

At the end of the day it's still $25K (+tax?) for an 11 year old car. Unless there's something drastically wrong with the mustang, I'd keep that.

The OP is from the NY area, invest in some good winter tires for the mustang and you should be fine. I drive a rwd camaro for a decade through chicago winters. With the right tires and common sense it was very driveable.

Sorry for the vague post, but my car is in good condition, with 10K miles. They are offering 25K.

Major problems not really

The only major prob I have had was both cat converters and they died after the 80,000 mile federal replacement mandate. other than that nothing really major. 140,000 miles, 2012 G37xS coupe

Outside of routine maint. issues discussed to exhaustion here in the community, the VQ37VHR and associated FM platform have displayed iconic reliability and there are many instances where owners see 200K trouble free miles with these cars.

However, as the others have alluded to this may not be the best time to buy a used car as its clearly a sellers’ market and many continue to look at their used car as a bank account, not as a deppreciating asset.

Maybe look into modding the mustang and holding on to it till the fire burns down in the used car market? The aftermarket for the Mustang dwarfs that of the G. Love the one you're with?
