Interior Part Numbers Confusion

Hello fellow geethirtysevenians,

I have a puzzle to figure out today, and I hope you can help me out. I am in a process of restoring my 2012 g37 coupe interior to its former glory and I've stumbled upon a peculiar issue. I cannot seem to narrow down my interior trim color. I'm referring to trim pieces on doors, previous owner somehow managed to ruin all aluminum pieces on handles and door panels by putting micro dents in all of them. Picture does not do justice, once installed it looks terrible. Anyway the issue is, I've been trying to source these online I have the part number but I can't seem to narrow down the right color code. I do not know how many different trim colors these cars have, but when I search for 80945-JL00A (this is what my door cap shows) infiniti sites show that it's been discontinued and replaced by 80945-JL02A, which is completely different color according to some online listings. I've attached images corresponding to each part number.

New part number is light aluminum.

How can I make sure I order the right thing? Seems like a crazy discrepancy to me.

Some more photos of interior, how does one put these dents in panels? I just don't understand.

Best advice when it comes to those interior trim pieces:

Go to discountinfinitiparts.com and enter your VIN. From there narrow down the trim pieces and part #'s you need. THEN, shoot them a email asking them to verify everything. Be warned, those pieces are not cheap!

Nissan (& Infiniti) rely on the VIN to determine part numbers (especially trim pieces)- NOT the actual part number(s) printed on the part itself. This is mainly due to the fact that Nissan loves to do "face lifts" to models mid-production; therefore the VIN- and basically the build date- helps to narrow down the correct part numbers.

I made this mistake when I converted my interior trim from that awful "Washi" to the "Obi Silk." I had to "cheat" and use a different VIN to get the pieces I wanted.

Looks like yours is the (dull gray) "Shodo."

Alright, so I've searched with VIN and got 80945-1NG0A (LH) 80944-1NG0A (RH); eBay has a listing and their color seems to match. Crazy how the last part is totally different. Where did you get these color names (Shodo, Washi etc.)? I don't even see color anywhere on parts sites.

The trim "names" likely came from some marketing literature that the dealers used. There are several threads on here about them.

Many owners choose to wrap their trim in vinyl wrap- a more cost effective and custom option. Just saying...

I am considering that, if I didn't have dents then it would be a solid option, however if I use thin vinyl then they would still be visible. If I buy a custom dash kit made with real carbon fiber and solid backing, it wouldn't come with door handle covers but everything else would be included. So my plan is to buy the door caps, and then interior trim kit like this:

Sand them down and paint them the color of your choice.

I went with the less expensive vinyl wrap, initially I thought that the dents would show through however if you get quality vinyl that's thicker this becomes a non-issue. Really happy with the way it turned out. If you decide to do this, I recommend getting a vinyl tool kit from amazon, VVivid brand vinyl wrap and a nice heat gun. The vinyl color I chose is called dry carbon fiber, which is matte and you can feel the texture on the surface. Very realistic.

Wow man you did a great job! I really like the way it came out, be sure to post pics of it installed.

I was going to suggest you could have used a tiny amount of body filler in the dimples prior to wrapping, but it seems the product you bought doesn't telegraph the dimples at all.

When I was looking to buy a G37 Coupe, most of them I found had funky damage to the aluminum trim. I kind of understand how it happens to the door handles, probably people holding their keys and squishing them up against the aluminum, that aluminum is very thin and I think it's a bit hollow directly behind the aluminum skin.

Anyways I like your results so much, I may try the same with my car.

Wrapping the interior was fun, but it takes patience. I've never done this before but I watched a lot of youtube before I started. Heat is your friend, especially with Vvivid vinyl, maybe because it's made in Canada . I did strip everything apart before applying this, I'm referring to center console area. Didn't want to scratch or damage electronics. This brand of vinyl can be purchased on amazon as well. I bought 3x5' piece for around $25. It's more expensive on ebay. You will have plenty left overs, but it's not as much as you'd think, so in case you mess up one of the panels you have backup plan. I did not find squeegee useful here, even on door panels I used my hands. No air bubbles to worry about, this vinyl has air release, way easier to work with than chinese ebay brands.

On the coupe they simply pry off, at the bottom of the door handle there's a notch, use non marring plastic pry tool.
