Whining noise from engine compartment
I know I should know this but I wanted to get a second opinion. So when I start my car, and while its running idle or while I'm driving, my car is making a whining noise that should like it may be coming from one of the belts or something. Can someone tell me what this could possible be? I was thinking a misaligned pulley or bad belt

The whine could be a bearing going bad on one of the idler pulleys, the tensioner pulley, accessory pulleys, etc. Best test would be to remove the belt and check how each pulley spins. Also check the alternator, power steering, and AC compressor. Any binding, roughness, or grinding sensation indicates bearing failure.
Assuming the noise is emanating from the belt area... Are you sure the noise is belt related?
Just my 10¢...

If you determine your wife isn't the source of the whine, try the spray bottle test.
How many miles on your vehicle? My G started making chirping and whining noises at about 60K. Noises went away after I replaced the belt, tensioner and pulleys.

Run a bar of soap over the belt as it runs, if whine goes away it's the belt and tensioner pulley...BUT DONT SPRAY BELT LUBE OR ANY LUBE ONTO BELT TO STOP WHINE it will cause more problems

I'm assuming its a belt issue or like you said a bearing issue. I'll to the water test this evening to see if it stops and proceed accordingly
