He did mention it was a Ford dealer. Agreed, should have stopped driving immediately and contacted the dealer.

Doesn't matter where he got it from. Whoever did the oil change is responsible for their negligence. How would Ford know he didn't stop as soon as he recognized the problem? Maybe he was on the freeway and would have been unsafe to stop.

If the damage is bad enough to kill the engine they would know he didn't stop right away. Purposefully killing an engine is not sound advice. Especially when you have no idea if they will cover it or fight to prove that the owner's negligence killed the engine and it would have been fine if he stopped when he noticed smoke/CEL.

Sure, you may be able to fight it and win but meanwhile you have no car or have to rent one while you fight it out in court and if you lose then you're on the hook for a new car/engine, legal fees, possibly their legal fees, and rental costs. Just not worth the risk/time.You see there's a problem you stop and have them fix it before things get worse.

How about you don't forget to tighten the oil plug? If the plug fell out, it's the person who last touched it responsibility to fix any damages you suffer.

Just like if a tech forgets to tighten the lug nuts, and you drive off, and a wheel gets loose. You expect the driver to stop and craw under the car to prevent damage? lmfao

That's why I do all my own work (w/ the exception of diagnotics), unfortunately my trust for things done right is quite low
I also never have a tire shop do the wheel installs on my vehicles, I'd rather haul tires to the shop, and bring them home for the install, too many times the wheels have got dinged from errant impact guns, over/under torqued, uneven pressures, etc.

^For real. I don’t trust anyone to do a proper job anymore with just about anything. I can’t even get someone to get my takeout order correct, nevertheless trust them with my drain plug or my lugnuts.
