New G37 Owner! Help me get Started!

Hey Whats up guys!

I've purchased a 2013 G37 Journey Coupe recently and actually going to pick it up on Tuesday! Super excited!

I'm trying to make sure everything goes smoothly with the car and also trying to do some pretty cool things this year with it.

Is there anything that I NEED to know? Maintenance needs? Anything to watch out for?

By the way, I'm 6'7 so it should definitely be interesting. Hopefully I fit Just couldn't give up on my dream car.

Lemme know guys!

Well I hope you at least sat in it and drove it. I'm 6'3" and my head brushes the headliner, I open the sunroof cover. I only went cosmetic (tint, LED's, ambient light package, spoiler and illuminated sills). You will quickly get "exhaust" (I think stock is perfect, throaty when it needs to be, non-droney when it needs to be. My neighbor with a Viper loves the exhaust note), next you will hear "drop it" (for me a mild drop is OK but anything else ....ewh. Plus I don't want to mess with the ride.) Then you will hear "intake". I say just enjoy it for a while ....

I went to CarMax and actually sat in a G37 sport. It was pretty comfortable. I also drive my friends 2009 BMW 3 Series... Pretty comfortable.

What do you mean enjoy it for a while ..

I mean enjoy it as is for a while, don't be in such a hurry to drop a bunch of extra $$$ into it on mods (I'll probably get banished her for saying that). :-)

As far as needs to know .... premium gas, if you drive it like you stole it (which you will in the beginning) don't expect anything close to decent gas mileage. It's very driving habbit dependant. Stick with synthetic oil and don't push it past 5k miles between oil changes (I know what manuals say and manufacturers of oil say). I have had a LOT of cars, boats, motorcycles (even a dune buggy.... wish I would have kept that) and I always use synthetic and don't let it go past 5k miles ... have NEVER had an engine issue and that includes a cheap Suzuki 1.3 litre under powered engine that had 200k miles on it when sold, didn't burn a drop. Congrats on the car!

Nice, thanks a lot!

Definitely looking to enjoy it! I'm going to try and take it easy the first time I get it. Not really looking to get any tickets these days!

Having owned my first G37 for all of a month now, I can definitely say you will drive it like you stole it! I came from (and still have as daily driver/work car) a 2001 Honda Prelude and coming from that into my G on the weekends, there is NO GOING SLOW! lol!

I agree with 2008 G Man though. Enjoy it first before you mod it. I think Infiniti did a fab job of building this model. Only thing I have on deck for my gal is to tint her windows 30% on doors and 20% on the rest.

Enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

something common that no one talks much about is:

1. road noise, doesn't matter what special tires, the g37 is not a lexus. You can hear the engine, exhaust, and I think money was spent into building a performance vehicle vs a quiet one so expect road noise.

2. vibrations! again its not a lexus or a hybrid/electric vehicle. You will have slight vibrations here and there that travel to the steering wheel or overall vehicle. This is normal, especially for a used car. So long as your vehicle isnt bouncing all over the place like it's gonna explode then its fine. Subtle vibrations at a stop is normal.

3. rattle - whether it is in the dash, headliner, center console, axles, trunk, or whatever! the majority get some rattling here and there! its normal!

4. clicking/ticking in the engine area is normal, so long as the sound is not obnoxiously loud there usually is no detrimental damage occurring. start up should sound pretty grumbly and ugly for the first 30 seconds to 1 minute (revs will be a tad higher during this time too) this is normal.

the downshifts are quirky.. you can feel it 50 percent of the times.

I did 20% tint in the rear and 40% upfront. My mods in the signature below is essentially all you need to bring your G to life!

Have you been in the car? I'm 6'0 and my hair brushes the roof of the car often. And on slight hills and inclines I'll bang my head against it when im coming down

Yes, I've sat in the G37S at a local Carmax. And I hear its compared to a BMW 3-Series. As I've mentioned, I drive my friends 2009 BMW 328i Coupe all the time. I fit perfectly.

I'm 6'3" and I have no issues with headroom. I could probably wear a helmet. I'm long-legged I guess. But you can adjust the seat down lower (assuming everyone knows that!).

Congrats on the G and enjoy! I too would consider leaving the car stock for a while and assessing what you like and what you think might need improving for your needs. Do a lot of reading on this forum first!

like 2008gman said, synthetic oil and change 4500-5k miles. My 08 is at 128k miles now and running strong. use premium! watch out for your knees! the doors are heavy and will try and snack on your leg. the paint sucks it's very fragile.

Nice, I'll be sure to stay on top of the oil changes.

In terms of keeping the car clean, do you guys bring your car to a local automatic car wash? Or prefer to do it yourselves?
