Bought used 2013 G37 Sport with CPO and returned in an hour
I bought a Certified Pre-Owned 2013 G37 Sport Coupe with all the bells and whistles. Drove it for about an hour and smoke began to bellow from the engine compartment. The car drives great, love the power, looks and features...but I'm not one to risk a future headache and immediately brought it back in about an hour after I picked it up and cancelled the sale (which the dealer was very agreeable to make happen).
Question: If the issue is reasonable explained, would anyone consider rebuying it? I hate being a sucker but not finding a ton of low mile, super clean G37 Sport models on the market. With CPO and 26K miles it was $27K from a dealer lot....thoughts? I don't mind paying little extra for peace of mind, but now that I have some anxiety about this car wondering if I should ask for them to pay for the Elite Warranty, etc.

Id find out what the problem is exactly. then decide if you want to buy back. with 26k .....sounds like a factory lemon to me(it happens to All Makes and models) , Or....somebody had one hell of a test drive...before you

I'd find out where was the smoke coning from. Maybe they cleaned the engine and got cleaner on the exhaust, or maybe added oil and left the fill cover off and some spattered on the exhaust - could be anything, bad or simple.
Take time to see if it's been wrecked. A friend bought a used 2015 G40 and found out later it had been wrecked, despite a clear CARFAX report. Driver door had to be closed harder than normal to close it, same with trunk. Found trunk lid bolts with paint that didn't match, and whole front end looked brand new - not a single rock ding on it. Plus a couple bolts were missing under the hood. Car looked great, though.

Unless it was a manual, it shouldn't be super rare to find another similar one at that price. I'd probably pass on it myself. It could very well be something minor but I know that wouldn't sit well with me, and I'd probably be paranoid every time I drove it after that.

It ended up being a loose oil plug, I went back and bought it for $1K cheaper and traded in my dads old van instead of my more valuable Honda Accord...worked out in my favor. Wheel bearing went bad on it, but they fixed it no questions asked.

Glad it worked out. I know when I bought my CPO with only 11k miles on it, super clean, Navigation/Premium G37X Coupe.. paid $28k... there was a big ding in the door they they refused to fix, after speaking to the general manager, they agreed to fix it, used a dentless repair, looked perfect. Art of the deal, get your demands in writing, lol.

Yeah that is the issue with Carfax, there are obviously cars that I have seen that I know were in an accident that causes some decent damage, good repair job.. the report shows totally clean. hmm... There is the issue where it was a super minor accident, it still comes up as "Car was in accident" when there was almost no damage. Then you try to trade in your car.. the dealer sees that. offers far less for the car
Plus, tons of people have $1000-2000 deductibles and many many minor accidents just barely reach that amount and they cant claim it anyway.
So in todays lesson, be very very very thorough before buying a car. Get underneath it, pull interior panels and make sure the factory glues and welds are all intact etc etc. There's no guaranteed way to know anything.

fyi, MANY of my clients who ask to make a claim I talk out of because the jump in rates, safe driving bonuses and discounts etc are far more expensive than just paying out of pocket for repairs. Aka, just because a car was damaged does NOT mean its been reported. I couldn't count with all of my appendages how many claims have been avoided for these reasons JUST since the new year and now none of them will ever show on CarFax. Just the way the business works.

With my GTO some lady tapped me, years back.... it was a $450 repair, repaint of rear bumper cover... I told her the price.. She refused to pay saying I was ripping her off, even though I said I could show her the two quotes, and said go thru her insurance.. OK.. lol. Let her rates go up over just $450.
