Have this now and don't like it. Way too quiet, even though they advertise it as a sport muffler, and seems like it doesn't flow as well as my IPL muffler. My IPL doesn't accelerate as smoothly at higher speeds with this. The tips on my IPL muffler rusted so I got the Manzos and loved the low end power it gave me but not the low rpm drone when I was cruising on the highway. So i tried this and can't wait to take off. Still owe like $280 on my card so when that's paid off this is coming off. Kept my IPL muffler but might go back to the Manzos to get that power back and just try to live with the drone. Does anybody know of a higher flowing muffler than the IPL muffler that doesn't have loud low rpm drone? I would try the Infiniti sport muffler but not sure if that's higher flowing than the IPL muffler. I read it's louder though.

Do you have the 7AT? If so, I'm thinking that any other after market exhaust will create drone at either 2K or 3K RPMs. Its annoying as hell and its a by product of the transmission. Above in the thread, the guy who bought my Megan Axle back had a 6 speed manual and it had ZERO drone and sounded great on his car but not mine (7AT). May be time for a transmission swap to eliminate the drone :-D

Yeah I have the auto. I don't mind a little drone but the Manzos were too much since I do mostly highway driving. The Meagan is too quiet Way quieter than my IPL muffler. Even when pushing it it doesn't have any bass in it's voice. I don't understand since I have an IPL. You would think it would be loud since my exhaust is more free flowing than a regular G.

Wow this was 6 years ago!

What exhaust did you end up with? I'm on an exhausting journey (lol) trying to have an exhaust system that flows well and has no drone. Those are my only two requirements and so far the drone has been winning. It's like having a water leak in your house pipes, a true nightmare with no relief in sight.

Ohh, you're THAT guy!

All kidding aside, I've also reached a similar conclusion of maybe modifying the stock muffler box since I cannot stand the drone and i've been doing all kinds of weird things to my exhaust system to quiet it down and I don't like any of them:

Helmholtz - while it gets rid of drone at a particular RPM, it then moves it up to another RPM and it messes with the power
Connecting dual pipes - trying to maximize scavenging hoping that would help with the drone, but I need more knowledge to get effective results

I'm trying something new again currently. I'm hoping it will solve the drone...will know an a week or two or whenever it gets finished.

Yep - Ive also done work on my 93-300ZX and tried to build in Helmoltz pipes to eliminate the drone. You think you have drone on a G? The 300ZX is 10x worse for Drone b/c of the open cabin. I finally went back to a stock aftermarket and ditched a Magnaflow and another brand. Here's a few pics of the failed experiment. The histogram shows the frequences I was trying to attack, based on that, you compute the length of the Helmholtz tube. 2nd pic shows this tube (1 for each exhaust outlet).

I found this to be very true. I tried 3 different lengths of Helmholtz tubes but it shifted the drone to other lower frequencies. I even thought of installing a resonator-style helmholtz (like ARC?) and finally went to stock OEM replacement.

Oh no. That reminds me of my NA Z32 days where I was trying to make power out of that sorry VG30DE engine. Putting an aftermarket exhaust really killed the only 'fast' feeling that the car had at 2-2.5K where there was a nice surge of power and the rest is just ho hum V6 revving and going nowhere.

I'm trying out the Black Widow 'muffler' in the middle to split the pipes into 2. Not expecting huge changes but hoping for some more low end power.

Yeah I'm not even attempting another helmholtz this time. Really didn't like the results when I had it on my experimental exhaust V2.

correct. The Z32 engine (NA) makes a lot of noise compared to my G37 VQ but I don’t care about that. I love the design, the look and the t-tops. Get thumbs up all of the time. Good Sunday drive and tinkering on it. No need for power, just the experience and style for my 57 yr old body.

I do miss that car though. The way that the car felt when driving it, was unlike any other car. It really felt like stepping into a cockpit, there was some serious seating position engineering going on there. The car also felt so solid during turning and man did that car turn. The engine had enough power to enjoy the car; I just think that it's best to leave the exhaust stock for that car.

Driving today's Z feels like stepping into an Altima by comparison. Of course, there is the price difference too. The NA Z32 was 50K new, which is close to 100K in today's money. While the 370z is something like 30K.

I tried a thrush muffler on the Z32. Thought the baffles/chambers would cancel things out. Honestly it was louder and had more drone that the Magnaflow muffler that was a straight pass through. Hope this one gives you the drone elimination you seek, but I would not be confident in it.
