Cabin Air Filter (Up or Down)?

I just changed my Cabin Air Filter (WIX) and I need to confirm something with you guys.

I was under the impression that the arrow for the direction of air flow should be pointed up. Up until this point, the cabin filter has always been changed by the dealer and for some reason, the arrow was pointed down instead. When I inspected/analyzed the filter, it was dirtier on the downward facing side and this made me think that my original impression was correct. Did the dealer screw this up as well?

Can anyone confirm?

The dirty side is the intake side. Which in this case is the bottom. The arrow should point in the direction of flow.

The dealership monkey either doesn't know or doesn't care if your filter is installed correctly. That's the factroy trained skilled technician that you're paying $129/hour for.

Yeah, unfortunately. Live and learn. At least now that I am doing it myself, I can installed the filter correctly then. Thanks for confirming.

My post was wrong. I got it backward. The tech was correct.

I don't know why I thought this, I actually stickied the video with the instructions.

Good catch.

i think theres 2 types of filters. one with the arrow direction and the word airflow next to it. that would indicate to face the arrow in direction of airflow. the other filters dont say airflow and have an arrow facing up with the word up. so i think that jus indicates which is the top of the filter. thats jus my guess lol

Interesting. If the air flow was going down, why would the filter be dirtier on the bottom?

yea idk thats kinda weird. i think ur the only person i ever saw say that. most other filters ive seen the dirty side is the top of the filter. so does that mean the top of ur filter was clean? bc for most filters i know of air flow is usually only one direction so ull have one side that is clean and the other side would be dirty

Yeah, I am confused.

Btw, does it really matter which side of the filter is doing the filtering? I've been wondering about that. What do you think?

I got the WIX, but it does not contain carbon. I'll double check again I suppose and switch it around if I have to.

There appears to be 2 different OEM filters. One with arrow and the word airflow imprinted and another with jus The word up
