2009 coupe GPS issue

So recently the gps in my 2009 coupe has stopped giving me the correct location. For some reason the gps reads that I am 20 miles away from my actual location. When I go into info and look for gps satellite it says out of range. I've disconnected the batter to reset the ECU, I've also reset the ECU by pressing the grass method neither of them worked. If anyone has any info on how to fix or if it has happened to you let me know how you fixed this issue. I've searched over the forum but haven't found anything. Help, please!

I have an 08 and mine isn't as bad but the signal quality has definitively gotten a lot worse. To the point where it pretty much isn't reliable to use anymore. I've been contemplating swapping out the gps antenna but i think that might involve taking the headliner down....

I looked on google for a solution, and what I found is a massive amounts GPS complaints. While most appear to center on smart phones and blame OS updates, I suspect the government has done something with the GPS system. Given that they always have limited the accuracy of the system for citizens, if you remember in the 90's, GPS was pretty much useless you were in the Gulf War. Maybe the government messed up the software/hardware or your nav unit may be obsolete.

Anyway, it may be an antenna issue, but it also maybe a software issue-when did you update your nav unit? The nav updates aren't limited to just maps. My nav hasn't been updated sine 2010 and it's accuracy is so so at best.

Before you keep speculating why do you have a professional to take a look at it. That's what I would recommend I understand about trying to figure it out on your own but unless you know what you are doing I would let someone else take a look. Just what I would do.

Did you recently do a Map Update? The reason I asked is I did one about a year ago on my M and it's totally F'd up my XM Nav Traffic. Car says it has expired but of course XM says everything is right with their systems. I haven't had the strength to pursue.

That's also why I haven't done the current update, the older the system the more likely stuff will stop working. It is also why I'll no longer buy a new car since they are too digital-car dealers will stop supporting the hardware/software when the system becomes obsolete!

Does your correct location show up on Google Maps and the Waze App?

Lol yeah maybe big brother is in on it. I have never updated the NAV so I'm guessing it's the original software from the factory. I never had any issues with it giving me direction or my position so maybe my antenna crapped out on me idk.

Yeah I would do that but I have a feeling if I take it to the dealer they will just tell me I need something more then what I really need. I also don't trust a regular car stereo shop for some reason.

Is the nav antenna located in the little shark fin looking thing on our roof?

Nope, that's for the (crappy sounding) satellite radio. The GPS antenna is under the middle of the dash around the front centre speaker.

Did it jump overnight or slowly over time?
Do you have factory sized tires?

I would agree about the stealership's service department and local stereo shops. By the way do you park your car in the garage? What I have found with GPS devices is they can take longer to pick up signals if the device if brought indoors. My Escort 9500 takes forever to establish signal contact unless I leave it in the outside car. Same for my old Garmin.

Anyway, hard to see that an antenna can go bad.

Yeah my car is garaged. I don't drive it often but recently my daily took a crap on me and I was driving my G37 a lot. I noticed my right fender liner got chewed up by my tire and it was raining a lot where I live. I wonder if maybe the antenna could've gotten wet. Anyway I found a gps antenna locally in going to see if I can replace it myself. Hopefully it does.
