G35 Vs G37

Hi All,

2 part question for you guys..

1) My brother drives a 2006 G35 Coupe and I drive a 2010 G37X coupe. While he has 280hp and i have 330hp and the torque is 270 @ 4800 and 270 @ 5200. I very much can feel the noticeable difference when I accelerate on the G35. There is a much stronger torque off the bat and it just pushes me back while on my g37 its more gradual and smooth... why is that? what did they do different in the g37?

2) When I turn on DS - what exactly happens to the car and how does this benefit me in any way?

Thanks!

2. on DS mode it holds the shifts longer. also, you can change the gears manually if you put it on DS mode and go up and down. (it's more fun like this )

Probably the biggest difference is that the differential gearing is more aggressive in your brother's car. His are 3.538 and yours are 3.357.

After that your's is also heavier. The AWD transfer case is about 180lbs alone on top of the heavier 7 speed automatic transmission in your car (Vs his 5 or 6 speed) plus approximately 200lbs in your car elsewhere (I.e. you're probably carrying about 350-400lbs more than him)

They also came out with a thing called "swell" acceleration. So instead of immedate grunt, the engine was specially tuned to build horsepower almost continually to redline like a building wave

Your butt dyno probably just needs to be calibrated a little.

I’ve owned both cars, a 2004 G35 coupe and my current G37 coupe. Putting performance differences aside, IMO the G37 is more refined, has an improved ride with more luxury features when compared to my old G35.

Also I recommend Hotchkis front and rear sway bars you'll feel a huge difference with them installed. It'll feel like the car is kissing the pavement!

lol .. the term Butt Dyno is just an expression we use when one measures power of their vehicle by "feel" Otherwise there is a standard way of measuring horsepower and torque using a machine called a Dynamometer -"Dyno" for short.. So I was just joking with you that your "but dyno" might be a little off.

In all seriousness I owned a G35 and G37 coupe. Both RWD. The G37 has always felt quicker to me. Albeit there is less road and engine noise/ feel. The G37 also produces much more power up top (upper RPMs). So some may not otherwise notice the "feel" of acceleration in the G37 as much as the G35 unless you know when to notice it.
^ thus my joke about calibrating the butt dyno..

Ive had a 2007 g35 coupe that had a stillen exhaust, cai and upgraded intake manifold also stillen swaybars. Now a 2013 ipl vert. The g35 sounded way better but the ipl u can really feel the power like it never stops and aftr the stillen gen 3 cai it just pulls all the way thru to red line. In a lot of ways i miss the coupe but its hard to beat top down.

Love the IPL vert- especially in white with red interior. As far as a G convertible goes, IPL is the way to go.

lol, being a hair challenged guy (bald) I totally understand this. the first few warm days of spring you gotta have a hat. that might be a Vert thread, what hat do you keep in the car for top down driving.
