q60 400
Do you guys know if the q50 400hp engine is the same exact engine as the 300hp detuned version? Same as in same parts inside out. I read the 400hp one has 14psi while 300hp has 8psi. They didnt mention anything about different piston or rods or different head. So im guessing the 300hp is just detuned but is the same engine.

"The VR itself is a pretty marked departure for Infiniti.
The aluminum block and heads result in an engine 40 pounds lighter than the outgoing V-6.
It credits both direct-injection and electric valve timing for better acceleration and lower emissions.
It adds a water-to-air intercooler.
The exhaust manifold is integrated into the head for weight savings and to shorten the flow path, reducing lag.
400-hp versions have a special sensor that, due to the high boost pressure (14.7 psi versus 8.7 psi in the 300-hp version), senses when the turbo is nearing its redline (220,000+ rpm)."

I am not sure if the following is is exclusive to the 400 but I think that it is.. .I know that the the 400 hp version includes an optical sensor which monitors/ adjusts turbo speeds
An electric motor which controls valve timing. Not sure about what else. I am betting that the 7SP transmission is a beefier version on the 400 as well.

The internals of the engines may be the same but they likely have different turbos. Not sure but would make sense.

Take a look at this:

I'd agree that a 50hp jump is going to be quite easy and doable. 400hp is most likely doable although I do believe there are larger intercoolers, the aforementioned optical sensor and probably some advanced stuff in the ECU to keep everything operating as it should long-term. With the right cash outlay, you should be able to get there but honestly, it'll be less expensive, especially long term, to get the 400hp version. Factories tend to do things right from that standpoint and it comes with a warranty.
Now, and this is a big asterisk, there may be things in the 400hp model that limit how far things can be tuned. Those things might not be present in the 300hp version. That doesn't mean you won't have to replace and add a lot of parts. If BIG numbers are the goal, and the rest of the engine is identical (save for slight differences in turbos, oil coolers, intercoolers, etc...) the 300hp version might be the way to go.
If you are planning to mod one of these, I wouldn't be an early adopter unless you have really deep pockets and can get through the consequences of failure.
